In 2015, Dutch Bros.'s parent company ABN Amro sold Peet's Coffee to Maven Coffee Group, marking the final stop for this iconic brand in Kankakee. Kankakee, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. It is bordered by the towns of Romeoville to the east and Bloomingdale to the west. The population was 12,898 at the 2010 census. The Kankakee Museum is located in downtown Kankakee. The first European settlement in what is now Kankakee happened on December 8, 1814 when two Frenchmen from Joliette built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river near present-day College Street and Wabash Avenue. In 1825, traders from New York City began trading with the local Potawatomi people here and named this part of Kane County “Kanekatee” after their new friends. In 1827, John P. Costigan became one of only two white men to settle in what is now Kankakee Township when he bought land east of present-day Main Street from an Indian trader for $10 (). At that time, all of Kane County was prairie land with few trees or buildings other than Native American villages. The Costigans started a farmhouse on what is now Costigan Road which still stands today as one of only few surviving structures in town center dating back to those early days. In 1836–37, General David Dixon led an expedition against Ojibwe Indians who were living south of Kankakee Lake and had taken over some area withinpresent-day Romeoville Township.. After driving off many Indian warriors and capturing several chiefs including Oneida Chief Joseph Brant (1812-1890), Dixon ordered his troops to march through southeastern Kane Countykilling about 350 natives before finally reaching Kankakee Lake on September 15th (). For more than 50 years following this event known as the Battle Of Chicago (), Kane County residents have commemorated this day every September 15th by lining up along either side ofthe river opposite where Dixon's troops camped at night during their advance upstream (). Today there are several parks located throughout southern Kane County dedicatedto commemorating this important event including Battle Of Chicago Park just north of downtown Chicago () and BattleOfChicago National Memorial Plaza located across I-55 exit 259A outside St Louis ()

Kankakee is a town in southern Illinois, United States. The population was 9,453 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. Kankakee is located on the Mississippi River, some 25 miles (40 km) south of Chicago. The site where Kankakee now stands was first settled by French colonists in 1763 as Point Louisa and name meant "Place of Rocks." In 1818, when Illinois became a state, the community was renamed Kankakee after General David Ford Kankakee who had fought for Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The name stuck and it has been used ever since to identify this small town on the banks of the Mississippi River which is today known for its unique architecture and history. The first buildings were logs built by local farmers in 1824 near what is now Park Place Shopping Center. By 1840, there were eight houses with a Methodist church and post office here. A millinery shop added to downtown business in 1849 before becoming a restaurant called The Bluegrass House later that year which still exists today as one of downtown's most popular attractions In 1857, three brothers - John Denton Moultrie (founder), Ebenezer Dodge (founder), and Amos Eaton - started operating what would become one of America's leading cotton plantations called Doniphan County Plantation near present day Mundelein just upstream from where Kankakee sits today on I-94W adjacent to Deerfield Township . Known then as simply Doniphan County or Old Hickory land , it housed up to 20 slaves working 6 days/wk split equally between planting and harvesting with no time off allowed for recreation or education; life expectancy there was typically around 50 years Life changed drastically when Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860 & Key Washington Davis took over running plantation under new management; soon thereafter Lincoln oppressive laws regulating slave trade began being enforced − making many free black people migrate eastward into newly open states such as Illinois resulting in increased racial tension across US Boundaries
Kankakee, Illinois was a town in the central part of the United States. It is now a suburb of Chicago. The first European settlers in what is now Kankakee were French Canadians who came from Quebec in 1763 and built the settlement on land that was then swampy and marshy. The name Kankakee comes from two Cree words meaning "big water" and "place where there is plenty of water." The first white settler in Kankakee was John Prentice, who arrived in 1801. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Sangamon River. In 1819, Captain George Stephenson founded Vandalia (now Hammond) Station on the west side of the Sangamon River, which served as an early stopping point for travelers coming downriver to Moline or Belleville. In 1834, Aaron Burr campaigned in Kankakee against Andrew Jackson during his run for President. On November 2nd,1835, Burr's body was found buried near present-day Clinton Street and North Avenue in downtown Kankakee. This event helped to ignite local politics and make Kankokee an important center of political activity during the 1830s and 1840s. In 1846, Congress passed an act giving recognition to Kansas as a new nation within the United States. As a result, many people from eastern Missouri moved westward into Kansas Territory (later Oklahoma), including some who had lived near Vandalia Station since its founding years earlier. The post office at Vandalia Station closed on December 31st, 1907; however mail continued to be delivered by boat until 1908 when automated postal service became available through American Express couriers
