The Coffee House continued serving up Tactical Coffee until it closed in 1984. Many people consider it one of the city's most significant landmarks. The first Europeans to visit what is now Joliet were French traders who explored this region in 1672 as part of their exploration of present-day Illinois. They named it "Ile de la Cité" (Island of the City) because they thought that its natural harbour would make it an ideal location for a French settlement. The English explorer James Kents discovered this site on July 8, 1763 while exploring via land from Lake Michigan to Grand River down to St. Louis River near modern day Indianapolis, Indiana during his expedition known as Discovery Expedition #1. This location had been ruled by various Native American chiefs before being claimed by France under King Louis XIV in 1673 as part of his effort to expand France's empire into North America and beyond. In 1763, Kents called this tract "Joliet" after Jean-Baptiste Joliot de La Salle who was commanding an expedition sent exploring Santa Fe Trail between Fort Saint Anthony on Lake Texoma and New Mexico Territory east of Tucson along today's Arkansas River corridor. The first European Settlement at Joliet began with Polish refugees brought over by General Karwin Wojciech Jaruzelski from Podlaskie Voivodeship who established a small trading post here on November 5, 1786 known as Post Warszawski Górnik (Warsaw Grenadier Post). By 1800 there were about 100 Polish settlers living here including 15 pastors and 240 mechanics/builders working at Jastrzebiej Shipyards which built several warships for Great Britain during the War for Independence including HMS Erebus and HMS Terror (1797). On February 14, 1802', Ulysses S Grant became President of United States when he was elected Vice President over Aaron Burr In 1853 John Dearborn founded Dearborn Heights which included much valuable property south of present day downtown Joliet along Rock Road westward from current day Pulaski Road Dearborn Heights became incorporated into Joliet on December 1st1854 becoming one section of what would becomeCook County On October 15th 1871 three blocks north east corner State Street & Randolph Avenue – then called Asbury Park - was incorporation as a village within Cook County with 150 residents led by Supervisor John Sloat In 1902 Mayor George Bushe leased 110 acres north east corner Elmwood Avenue & Randolph Avenue from Ogden Trust Company for use as a parkland although only 9 acres were ever developed After years of planning two new neighborhoods were planned - Tower Place tothe northwest and South Side Village tothe southeast but never completed due to local opposition . These plans never came close to fruition because streetcar service arrived nearby in 1901 . Finally in 1912 Mayor Bushe leased 350 acres lying west side Of Elmwood Avenue from Sears Roebuck & Co for use as another parkland although again only 9 acres were ever developed . After years more planning two new neighborhoods were finally planned - North Side Neighborhoods angoules Southeast Side Neighborhoods but these plans also never came close to fruition because leadership changes made at Cook County Board caused them all eventuallyto be cancelled

The first known reference to Tactical Coffee appeared in a 1792 issue of The Revolutionary War Journal, where Captain John Smith mentioned that he had "a small quantity of this excellent beverage, which he calls Coffee." The first evidence that coffee was being brewed as a weapon is from an 1836 report by Captain James Cook on the voyage of HMS Beagle. In his journal entry for July 4, 1836, Cook noted that "At Noon we madest two hogsheads of Coffee" and later described how they prepared it: "We boiled one hogshead with water to make it strong, then put it into three tumblers and added some new cream and sugar; after which we drank it." Thisearly reference to coffee as a weapon may have been inspired by its ability to create uniformity in battle. By brewing coffee specifically for battlefield use, commanders could quickly identify who among their troops was best suited for performing specific tasks. Additionally, coffee could be drunk neat or mixed with other beverages for better digestion.
