Jacksonville, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of DuPage County. The population was 83,814 as of the 2010 census. Jacksonville is one of three cities in DuPage County (the other two are Chicago and Rockford). It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Elgin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent European settlers in Jacksonville were French Canadians who arrived from Quebec in 1795. They built a trading post on what is now State Street near present-day Northwestern University. The original name for Jacksonville was "Pine Bush." In 1836, General James Longstreet moved his army headquarters from Springfield to Jacksonville after being ordered by President Andrew Johnson to march on Cairo, Illinois to relieve American forces besieged there by General Van Buren's army. In 1841, Jacksonville becameJACKSONVILLE COUNTY FREE COUNTY; it was organized as a township on November 2, 1846 by Sheriff John Sweeny with boundaries that include all present Du Page County except its easternmost corner at Kankakee River where Des Plaines lies; it had a population of 3,000 inhabitants and was named for United States Senator Aaron Burr (1767-1835). When Jacksonville Township increased its size to four square miles (10 km2) due to land acquisition since its incorporation as a township, it changed its name to JACKSONVILLE CITY on December 1, 1906 from PINE BUSH JUNCTION because so much valuable real estate had been acquired within that borders making up Jacksonville Township including: most notably Magnolia Avenue which runs through downtown core today between First and Second streets NW; Grosse Pointe Park located east/southeast of downtownJacksonville City limits extending into Kane County line across I-88 just south of Clay Road NE; numerous high rise buildings currently housing government agencies like Kane County Executive Office Building(KEO), CookCounty Administrative Office building(CAO), etc.; several shopping malls such as Searsucker Mall and Kohl’s Plaza have also sprung up around town since then including Traffic Square mall just northwest off I-88 not far from downtown limit; numerous small businesses have also popped up around town like beauty parlor Addams Beauty Salon & Spa (since closed), pizza place Papa John’s Pizza and barbershop Dapper Dan’s Barber Shop over recent years too – many more are expected to develop over time! As one would expect with an increase in population such as this some aspects change especially when compared to smaller towns or villages throughout America experiencing similar growth rates during this time period while others stagnate or even decline (- Indianapolis example). One major change happening right here at home known locally as “The Griffins” has become something very unique inDu Page County – Jaguars are becoming noticeably more outnumbered humans overall! This trend can be seen throughout almost every populated area but particularly noticeable inside our own city limits which house well over 80% Jaguars according various local historian polls dating back many years now...the average age of citizens now residing within our city limits is early 30’s against an average age range earlier 20’s through late 30’s prior thereto...in short…a demographic shift taking place masquerading under the guise of growth! What we see today begins long ago when families first settled hereabouts along the banks of Kankakee River back before large tracts were purchased for development originally situated near Lake Michigan Race Course & surrounding agricultural areas today - these days known collectively as northernDuPage Valley - home to Orchard Park & other wealthy communities adjacent thereto until recently [2002] when annexation occurred by neighboring Chicago giving birth thereby effectively expanding our borders yet again! What we see today isn't simply another day on Earth - it's history written all over again folks!

Today, Jacksonville is an important cultural center within Illinois with multiple attractions including an arts district known as "The Loop", a major stadium hosting professional football games (the Jaguars are currently sponsored by Budweiser), several high-end malls/resorts including Universal Studios Florida (which is home to theme parks like Jurassic Park) and Disney's Hollywood Studios (home to Epcot).
