Huntley is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,233 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the village of Huntley that once stood within the town limits. The first settler in Huntley was John Gage, who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on the site of what is now the Community Center Park. Gage's cabin may still be seen today on State Road 32 south of town. A second settler, James Hutton, arrived in 1840 and built a log house on what is now Seventh Street just east of Court Street. In 1846, General Harrison Gray Otis established an agricultural colony called Palmerville in what is now Kane County and laid out a township to serve as its center. Otis named his new township for him, Huntley after his father-in-law and business partner Samuel Holden Hunt (1772–1850). In 1853, following Harrison Gray Otis' death, Huntleys merged with Palmerville Township to form Kane County. Huntley was founded by Captain David Porterfield and others during the period 1849 – 1850 as a small trading post at what is now Third Street and Seventeenth Avenue west of central Kane county Courthouse Square; it soon grew into an important center for agriculture due to its location near major transportation links such as wagon roads connecting Chicago with other parts of Illinois and Michigan Territory; local merchants were able to sell goods directly to settlers without going through agents or middlemen; Porterfield also traded with Indians along the old Northern Pacific Railroad route through central Kane county

Huntley, Illinois is located in the eastern part of the state of Illinois and is bordered by McLean County to the north, Sangamon County to the east, Buena Vista Township to the south and Carbondale Township to the west. The population was 1,899 as of 2010. Huntley was platted on February 12, 1871, by John P. Hunt and his brother-in-law George Hynes. It became a town on November 4, 1872. The first post office in Huntley was opened on December 3, 1872. The town had a population of only five people when it incorporated as a town. The first settler in Huntley was John Cavanaugh who arrived in 1873 from New York City with his family. He built a cabin near where he later settled down called "Cavanaugh's Grove". Other early settlers included James Moon who came in 1875 from Ohio and Harry Giffin who arrived in 1880 from Pennsylvania. Jens Jensen started farming here about 1889 which led to his nickname "Jensen's Lake". Huntley had its own school system starting with an agricultural school known as "New Beginnings" which operated from 1865 until 1869 before being moved to Carbondale for two years before returning to Huntley where it continued until 1896 when it merged into Carbondale High School . In 1905 there were also plans for a vocational high school but these plans never materialized . In 1906 Industrial Park Corporation began building what would become Carbondale Civic Center which still stands today . In 1952 Huntley became one of fourteen towns within McLean County that formed Arlington Heights Village which lasted until 1984 when it merged into Urbana . In 1984 through consolidation all the local government functions within McLean County were consolidated into one organization becoming Champaign–Urbana Community College District No 2
