Huntley is a small town in the northwestern Illinois county of Kane. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is located on the west side of the Will County line and about east of Chicago. Huntley was founded in 1869 by John D. Hunt and his family. The Huntleys are a prominent local family which has been involved in many aspects of life in Huntley over its history. They have owned and operated a grocery store, post office, bank, livery stable, brush & feed company, restaurant and several other businesses over the years. In addition to their roles as landowners and civic leaders, John D. Hunt also served as mayor of Huntley from 1951-1957 and 1957-1963; he was subsequently elected to the Illinois General Assembly where he served until his death in 1984. His wife Betty also played an important role in local politics for many years before her death in 2002; she had two sons John Jr., who lives in Illinois now and David J., who resides here with his wife Ellen (née Pugh)and two children: Jack (now Jack Hetherington)and Sarah Jane Hetherington). John D’s brother-in-law George Lincoln occupied a similar position as Mayor from 1961-1965; he later became Governor of Illinois under President Lyndon Johnson

Huntley, Illinois is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. Huntley is considered to be part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is home to the Huntley Historical Society and the Huntley-based School District No. 190. The community was named for John A. Hunt, who had a large farm there in 1854. The first post office in Huntley was established on October 13, 1856, and it functioned until November 1, 1857. The first settler in Huntley was James Pohlman, who arrived on July 16, 1857. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1870, John Wirth bought land from George Hagerty and began cultivating it into farmland that he would sell off over time to individual settlers or businesses which developed around it such as Wirth's grocery store and post office building that still stands today on First Avenue North (now Washington Boulevard). In 1893–1894 Andrew Carnegie donated $5 million towards construction of one mile of track connecting Chicago with Rushville (now Joliet) so that goods could be shipped directly from Chicago to Joliet instead of being transported through Decatur or other villages near the city center. This made Huntley possible because railroad connections were then much more important than they are now due to the lack of shipping options outside of Chicago at this time
