The history of the Huntley Army National Guard is reflective of the community it serves. The unit has been activated and deployed to support the citizens of Huntley for over sixty years. The unit entered World War II as a unit of the Illinois National Guard, but was mobilized in September 1939 and initially served in Europe. After serving in France and Belgium, the regiment participated in Operation Market Garden, which saw participating units block invading German forces from entering Holland. In 1945, Huntley was mobilized for the Korean War and served until hostilities ended. Upon its return home, the regiment was placed on standby status until called into service again during peace time in 1992-1994. This prosperity helped spawn businesses throughout town including an auto dealership; a grocery store; several restaurants; two banks; three movie theaters; four factories producing munitions; thirteen churches/synagogues etcetera which contribute greatly to today’s economy within town limits alone without outside influences or assistance through government programs like highway construction etcetera which have heavily influenced these businesses since their inception many decades ago via what are now termed “atoque industries” which are typically found near main shopping streets downtown like Elmwood Ave., Spring St., Patton Ave., Third St., Fifth St…..etc….the arterial commercial corridors throughout town Once frequented by farmers who transported goods local & abroad along these streets thru out town now feature numerous high-end shops such as Saks Fifth Avenue NY & Saint Laurent Paris………the once rural areas east side oftown became highly populated with new subdivisions established near Interstates 55 & 65 /I-10/ then Uptown Shelby Claire becoming increasingly associated with nightlife activity……………..and finally Downtown Huntsville becoming increasingly residential……………overall this led to increased traffic congestion inside city limits especially along arterial commercial corridors……….certainly one key reason why police officers had become necessary within city limits back then

Huntley is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,271 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Huntley was George Hargrave who arrived in 1836. He and his family were the pioneers of what would become Huntley. Hargrave built a log cabin on the east side of town in 1840. The first store opened in 1846 and was run by John Sutherlin. In 1853, J F Baird started a blacksmith shop which became one of Huntley's most popular businesses until it closed its doors in 1957 due to financial constraints. Huntley's economic development began with the arrival of the railroad in 1872 which gave rise to new industry such as lumber manufacturing and agriculture; however, it wasn't until after World War II that Huntleys primary industries changed from agriculture to manufacturing; this included automobiles, appliances and other products exported to Japan during World War II. During the 1960s-1980s, Huntleys economy grew rapidly thanks to annexation by Champaign County and then by Urbana County; however, rapid growth led to increased pollution and social unrest which eventually forced towns such as Huntley towards bankruptcy during the 1990s-2000s recession. In recent years, Huntleys economy has begun to rebound thanks to new investment including retailemployment opportunities withinChampaign County as well as exportsto countries such as Mexico and Canada; however, much work still needs to be done before Huntsleys economy can reach its full potential.

Huntley, Illinois was a small town in the Kane County Region of Illinois from 1847 until it merged into Kankakee County in 1919. The first settlers arrived in the area that is now Huntley in 1847. A post office was established at Huntley on November 3, 1847, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on October 15, 1951. The first store opened in Huntley on July 5, 1850. It was operated by J.M. Hickey and his family. By 1860, there were six stores operating within the town limits; two of these were owned by Hickey’s children. The other four stores were run by men who bought goods from farmers or local merchants. In 1865, a school was built near the intersection of Elm and Center Streets to serve the community of Huntley as well as neighboring townships of Kankakee and Bourbonnais. A public library also opened in 1865-66; however, it closed after one year due to financial difficulties. In 1868-69, an addition to the high school building was constructed which became known as “The Great Hall” because it could seat 257 people inside and still provide space for seating outside (it still does). The new high school served students from Huntley as well as neighboring townships of Kankakee and Bourbonnais for many years until it closed in 1969 due to budget cuts by then Governor Richard Manges Jr.. In 1916-17, a new courthouse replaced the original building which had been destroyed during World War I (the old courthouse had been used as a jail). At this time, only residents of Huntley were allowed to vote; all other residents within three miles of the town voted through township trustees instead. In 1920-21, another court Annexation occurred which added additional courtroom space inside the existing courthouse for use by county courts when necessary rather than having to travel far outside to find an appropriate courtroom location.
