One of the earliest references to coffee can be found in a deed dating back to 1820. At that time, there were two villages within the city limits of Chicago: Cook and Cicero. Both villages had their own churches and schools. In 1821, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United States and he traveled throughout Illinois on his campaign trail. One stop was in Cook County, where he purchased some coffee from an Arab trader named Jabez Jordan. Coffee became very popular in America during the Revolutionary War because it helped supply soldiers with food while they fought. Coffee continued to be popular after the war and it quickly became one of the most important exports from America. After the Revolution, several Dutch farmers started cultivating coffee beans in areas such as Holland Park and West Side Highway in Chicago Heights. Eventually, these farmers began exporting their beans all over North America including Europe! At some point during World War II, an Italian American named Antonio Montresor decided to start a business called "Maga Coffee" in Homer Glen! Maga Coffee was initially just a small grocery store selling coffee beans and pastries until 1955 when it opened its current location at 9th & State streets! Maga Coffee has been serving delicious iced drinks ever since!

The name honors General George Washington Homer, who served as commander in chief during the American Revolution and president from 1789-97. In 1941, when Cook County became suburbanized, Glendale merged into Homer Glen. In 1961, Homer Glen voted to annex part of neighbouring Arlington Heights due to strong community support for doing so. The annexation created a new municipality with a population larger than both villages combined; however it remains an unincorporated community within Cook County. According to the 2010 census, there are 5,653 people living in or near Homer Glen – making it one of America's most diverse small towns. Among its many features are several large parks - such as Hirschfield Park (home of Northwestern University) and Deerfield Park - as well as smaller ones including Maple Leaf Park & Playground and Highland Hills Golf Course. At its peak in the 1920s it had a population of over 10,000. The town was originally called "Hebron". The name change was made to accompany the arrival of the railroad in 1887. Hebron served as the railhead for goods and passengers travelling between Chicago and Springfield. In 1909, the first post office opened in Homer Glen with mail delivered by stagecoach. In 1916, Homer Glen became a township when it merged with other nearby townships. In 1924, Homer Glen changed its name to "Homer" after General George Washington's home in Virginia Heights near Alexandria, Virginia
