Coffee was first introduced to the area around Homer Glen, Illinois in the early 1800s. A group of farmers in that area decided to start a coffee house in order to sell their coffee beans. The first coffee house was located on State Street in downtown Homer Glen. In 1872, the town of Homer Glen built its own school and began selling coffee from the school's kitchen. The town also started having daily morning meetings at which people would get coffee from the teacher's kitchen. In 1886, a company named Grosse Pointe Coffee bought the school and started making their own coffee. From then on, Grosse Pointe Coffee became one of the most important companies in Homer Glen. Over time, different businesses took over from Grosse Pointe Coffee and continued making their own coffee until it finally closed down in 1992. Today there are several restaurants that serve delicious lattes made with Grosse Pointe beans such as Joe's Place and Bitburger outlets throughout town.

Homer Glen is a small town in the northwestern United States, located in McLean County. The population was 1,867 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. Homer Glen is one of five townships in McLean County and one of twelve townships in Illinois. The first settlers to Homer Glen were four men from New York who came overland on their way to Kansas Territory in 1837. They named their new settlement after John Fitch's home town of Glens Falls, New York. The first post office was established in 1838, and it was called "Fitchstown". In 1853, the name changed to "Homer Glen." The biggest industry in Homer Glen during its early years was agriculture; however, as time passed various businesses sprung up including a mill (1859), a grocery store (1911), a druggist (1920), an auto garage (1927), and a newsstand (1930). In 1938, the Community Council began providing services such as fire protection and public works for the town. At that time there were only seven homes and thirty-six residents living within the town limits; however, by 1950 there had grown to ninety-four homes with a population of 2,000! In 1951–52 plans were made for what would become Springfield Township but then-Governor Adlai Stevenson vetoed it because he felt that Springfield should be larger than just five townships! The community council decided to keep Homer Glen all unto itself and renamed it "Homer Glen Township". However, when General Motors bought GMAC in 1957 they discontinued most car manufacturing within Illinois so much so that no more jobs could be found for locals despite efforts by local officials to revive business.Local officials soon realized that without continued heavy industry/manufacturing growth they would not be able to maintain infrastructure needed for education or other day-to-day functions such as water supply or sewage disposal; consequently they sought federal money through programs such as Title I funding which allows communities receive assistance with developing needed infrastructure projects without having to sell land! This led eventually to construction of Valley View Elementary School which opened its doors on October 22nd 1959! That same year also saw completion of Rural Electrification Administration's Cahokia substation (#5) making Homer Glen finally connected with surrounding rural areas across county lines! A new high school – CTA High School – opened its doors on October 9th 1970 completing what had been envisioned as an intercounty high school system!. With advancements technology now being available including 3D printing technology this has since allowed Forrester Middle School students from neighboring Agawam Township access into Humboldt Park during lunchtime thereby reducing commuting times caused by distance!
