Hoffman Estates, Illinois is a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The population was 75,811 as of the 2010 census. By 1945, Harry Cohn had bought additional land and founded Cohn Properties Incorporated, which would become one of Chicago's most significant real estate companies. Hoffman Estates experienced rapid growth during World War II due in part to its proximity toChicago's military bases and factories. The post-war years were also difficult for Hoffman Estates as many residents left for better paying jobs elsewhere in Cook County or outside of Chicago; however, this has started to change over time with new development occurring that attracts more people back into the community. One such development was Trump Tower located in neighboring Englewood; after Donald Trump became president in 2016, he decided to move his business headquarters from New York City into Hoffman Estates; this has helped increase demand for housing within the community due to its close proximity to major city attractions. In 1847, Hoffman Estates was founded by John A. Hoffman and his wife, Cornelia (née Leffingwell). The Hoffmans were the first white settlers in Illinois. They arrived on a farm called "Hoffman's Landing" on the Fox River. The Hoffmans built a log cabin and started to grow crops. In 1850, they bought land from the Illinois General Assembly and began to build a house. John A. Hoffman died in 1859, but his wife continued to live there with their six children until her death in 1875. The Hoffmanes' children kept their home until it was sold to the city of Chicago in 1919. Today, much of what is now Hoffman Estates was once part of Chicago's North Side community. The architecture of Hoffman Estates is characterized by its simple design elements - large windows that let natural light into the home, stone steps leading up to entrances, and tight Wright-Bennettian curves that give each room its own identity. Some of the most famous homeowners in Hoffman Estates include Donald Trump, Jay Leno, and Richard Nixon
