Hinsdale is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 60,830 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Chicago–Naperville– Urbana Metropolitan Area. It lies on the north side of Chicago and is bordered by Lake Michigan to the east and south, Kenilworth Township to the west and north, and Champaign Township to the east. Hinsdale was founded in 1868 by Presbyterian Reverend James Hinton as a mission station for his new church in what is now Midtown Chicago. The first school in Hinsdale was taught by Mrs. Carruth on a farmstead located just south of town along present-day State Street. In 1871, Hinton purchased land bounded on the north by MidtownChicago and its existing limits on both sides of Wabash Avenue from Mr. John Kinzie (the founder of Kinzie’s department store). He named this tract “Hinsdale Prairie” after his home parish in Scotland which he had visited while attending college there some years earlier. In 1879, he donated another tract of land near present-day Kedzie Boulevard and Pulaski Road to establish what would become known as "The Gables". This gift marked an important milestone in community development because it opened up access to downtown Chicago for future residents who could then go shopping or visit friends there instead of having to walk far down Chestnut Street or Washington Avenue

Afterward, both military veterans and civilians were eager for more responsibility within their home country's defense establishment. This desire for change led Congress to pass legislation establishing the Coast Guard on September 3rd 1915. At that time there were only 10 active detachments across America; however, over time these detachments have grown into major organizations responsible for coastal security throughout America. Hinsdale is a small town in the northwest Illinois region, located about 21 miles north of Chicago. The population was 10,835 at the 2010 census. Hinsdale is home to Hinsdale College, one of the largest private universities in Illinois. Hinsdale also has a large military presence with two main branches - the United States Military Academy and Camp Pendleton - as well as numerous smaller installations across many sectors of government, education and industry. The community's history can be traced back to 1836 when John Prentice founded what would become Hinsdale Institute, one of several colleges in Northwest Indiana that offered educational opportunities for freed slaves. In 1854, John Wacker purchased land east of town from Prentice and developed it into an agricultural colony known as "Wacker's Prairie." By 1870, Wacker had assimilated several thousand African Americans who worked on his plantations into his own society. The first post office west of Chicago opened in Hinsdale on December 12th, 1876 (the date remains etched on local buildings). In 1902 The Methodist Episcopal Church built its current church which still stands today; construction began on the original structure in 1893 duringWWI by Dr. Lewis Carroll Hoyt III and continued until 1903 when it was completed by Reverend George Goudy Biddle Sr.. A new school building was dedicated to students’ memory on October 3rd 1909 after years of planning by Mrs. Carrie Addison Kapp and her husband pastor Rev. Caryl Addison Kapp (later Pastor emeritus at First Presbyterian Church – Willisburg) following their graduation from Northwestern University with degrees in theology & social work together in 1904-05 while attending West Point preparatory School; they were both fourth generation college graduates & first black women to receive undergraduate degrees from any UVA or UNC schools- this class paved way for later generations including myself! One hundred fifty acres east of town along Mound Road 206 served as a farmstead known as "Penny Hill" until 1865 when it passed through various hands before being acquired by Colonel Ebenezer Garland who donated it to the city Beautiful avenues run through village have been named after members or friends of pioneer families: Alice Ewing Howland (1898-1976), Ida Keyes Garrison (1892-1984), Vernon Fenton Higgins (1902-1992), Willard Beal Richardson IV (b born 1982), Ramona Richardson Beal(b born 1984) .
