The history of the Army in Hinsdale, Illinois dates back to 1812 when General Anthony Wayne was appointed the first governor of what is now Illinois. General Wayne's army marched into this area and founded a military post called Fort Dearborn. The fort served as a base of operations for the western wing of the United States army during the War of 1812. In 1816, General Wayne left Illinois to take office as President James K. Polk's Secretary of War. As Secretary, he ordered an expansion of the U.S.Army and created two new corps--the First Corps and Second Corps--to help lead American forces into battle against Mexico in1821-24. In 1861, following America's entry into the Civil War, General Nathan Bedford Forrest became one of America’s most famous generals and led Confederate forces throughout much of southern Illinois until his surrender at Vicksburg in 1865. After Confederate defeat, many soldiers from Forrest’s unit took up residence in Hinsdale and contributed significantly to its early growth as an agricultural town located on a strategic location near Chicago (then known as “The Prairie”). Today, Hinsdale is home to over 6500 civilian residents along with over 1100 military members who serve under various branches of the U.S.Army including troops stationed at Ft Hood (Hood County), Ft Peoria (Peoria County), Camp Pendleton (San Diego County), Arlington National Cemetery (Arlington County) and numerous other locations across our country both present day and past tense!

Hinsdale, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,688 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest community in Cook County by population and the second-smallest by land area. Hinsdale's small size has led to its developed atmosphere; residents are known for their laid-back lifestyle and close-knit community spirit. The history of Hinsdale dates back to 1839 when General David Dixon founded a wagon post on what is now Main Street. Dixon named the post "Hinsdale" after his plantation near present-day Hinsdale Township. In 1847, Reverend John Aiken organized a Methodist church in Hinsdale and it remained active until 1893 when it merged with another Methodist church in nearby Wheaton to form First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton (now United Methodist Church). In 1853, Daniel Boone settled on land east of Main Street in what is now part of Hinsdalecounty Park. He named his new village "Booneville". On July 27, 1862 during American Civil War, Confederate Captain James Waddell attacked and burned Hensalecounty Hall (now Boonesborough High School), located two blocks north of present day Main Street between Eighth and Ninth Streets. This event marked the beginning of an ongoing feud between Union forces and Confederate sympathizers that would continue up until 1865 when Union troops destroyed all Confederate military installations within sight of Cairo Junction (present day Springfield). In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was elected as President of the United States; he appointed Hiram Johnson as Secretary of War which caused much contention within the Republican Party over who should be considered headliner for Reconstruction efforts following the war. One Republican candidate submitted a letter claiming that because no one had yet found evidence that black men were property or criminals they should be given citizenship so they could vote; this nomination was ultimately accepted by Lincoln who placed Johnson into office as our first African American Attorney General despite objections from white Republicans such as Salmon Pinchot who feltJohnson would use his power to promote integration instead of prosecuting crime. With Reconstruction fully underway following the end of World War I both political parties began to change their stances on race but progress was slow due largely to lack funding which hampered effort throughout most of the 1920s%. Hinsdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,572 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. Hinsdale is located on the border of Cook and DuPage counties. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hinsdale were French traders in 1678. By 1718, a small area north of present-day Hinsdale had been purchased by Major John Lucas from the Potawatomi Indians for £200 sterling. In 1792, George Washington surveyed and laid out Hinsdale Township as part of his surveyor's plat for the Northwest Territory; it was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1802. In 1868, local farmers began growing corn and potatoes on their fields near modern-day downtown Hinsdale; this led to an increase in business and development around the town center over time. The opening of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway in 1873 made possible more commercial growth within town limits - including several new businesses that sprang up around First National Bank and its associated buildings on Michigan Avenue (now Michigan Street). This trend continued into the early 20th century as new industry became available in nearby Joliet and Tinley Park thanks to railroad connections. During World War II, many people from eastern Illinois came to work at various munitions plants across northern Illinois in search of war production jobs; those workers erected artillery shells at Rock Island Arsenal near Rockford while also working at other industries elsewhere in northern Illinois during peacetime. Afterward, many residents returned home to raise families while still benefiting from wartime industrial activity which left behind significant amounts of debris and pollution throughout much of southeast suburban Chicago - particularly along Lake Shore Drive where many factories closed down after 1945 due to dwindling demand or competition from newly developed suburbs such as Oak Lawn and Wheaton Heights.
