It served as an anchorage for small boats used by the Harbor Defense Unit and other law enforcement activities. In 1924, the first Coast Guard cutter in Illinois was built at Inca Point Naval Dockyard in Wilmington, Delaware. This vessel served as one of two patrol vessels operated by the Illinois coast guard from 1922-1924. During this time period, there were also several shore stations located throughout northwestern Illinois and parts of southern Indiana. Highland Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,531 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by the city of Chicago to the north and west, Oak Lawn to the east, and Streamwood to the south. The first settlers in what would become Highland Park were Quakers who arrived from Pennsylvania in 1795. They founded a small town on a tract of land that still stands today near what is now State Street and Cicero Avenue. The town was named after high mountains in Scotland which their leader had seen while traveling there. In 1814, Scots-Irish colonists from County Down settled here as well and renamed it Highland Park after their homeland. The first schools in Highland Park were built as private homes for wealthy farmers and businessmen. By 1920, however, public education had started to grow here thanks to local mill owners who donated land for school buildings and scholarships for young students. A new high school was built on this site in 1927; it would become known as Highland Park High School before being renamed again in 1965 to its current name following a merger with other nearby high schools. Today, Highland Park offers residents access to over 100 college degrees programs within its walls including more than 20 universities with research centers located on campus! The city also has an economy that diversifies through sectors such as health care services, technology companies, information technology consulting firms/services providers and restaurant chains among others
