In 1928, Dutch Schultz opened his first Coffee Shop in order to compete with other Chicago businesses that had started selling coffee outside of Illinois. He became one of the most successful entrepreneur inChicago during this time period and quickly became known as "the king of coffee". He later purchased an entire block in Downtown Chicago and continued running his business there until his death in 1992.
