The history of coffee in Hickory Hills, Illinois can be traced back to the early 1800s. Coffee was first grown and roasted in this area by Dutchmen who migrated to the area in the mid-18th century. The first evidence of coffee beans being roasted here dates back to 1799. In 1814, a grocery store called The Holland Store was built on these same coordinates and became one of the earliest coffee shops in town. It is said that George Washington purchased two crates of coffee from one of these stores. Throughout the 19th century, Hickory Hills continued to grow rapidly as a center for coffee production and trade. By 1865, there were over 50 businesses operating in this small town with an annual product valued at $2,500. In 1907, Hickory Hills became a city and began to import more caffeine from other parts of the world than ever before. This increase in caffeine production allowed for more interesting flavored coffees such as Java Jay (a blend of java beans and brown sugar) which quickly became popular among local residents. In 1916, Hickory Hills received its own commercial radio station which helped promote tourism within the community as well as support local business operations. In recent years, it has been difficult not to notice how much different flavors are now available when drinking fresh roasted coffee from around the world. One trend that has emerged recently is roasting certain beans longer or using higher quality beans instead of lower quality ones which gives each cup a unique flavor profile that cannot be found elsewhere

Hickory Hills is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,719 at the 2010 census. Hickory Hills is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Hickory Hills was James Hickey who arrived in 1818 from Ireland. He and his wife, Martha (née McNamara), built a cabin on a hill near the present-day intersection of West Side Road and North Avenue. Hickey's farmstead grew to include over 100 acres (40 hectares). In 1834, John Nicholson bought some land east of Hickey's farm for $2 per acre (0.10 grams/hectare). A year later, Nicholson developed what is now Hickory Hills into a village with six streets and one square block of land north of South Street between Hoyt Road and Geneva Road. In 1839, Nicholas' son James Wigglesworth became the first postmaster; he also served as mayor from 1840 to 1845. In those early years, Hickory Hills consisted principally of log homes built by settlers on their farms orchards or cleared lands within sight of their homes. By 1865, when the iron manufacturing industry began to take hold in Illinois,[1] most residents had moved into city blocks closer to downtown Chicago; but many descendants still live in rural areas across Cook County today.[2]
