In 1919, the brigade was redesignated as the 8th Infantry Brigade and then again as the 8th Infantry Division in 1949 which made Hickory Hills one of only two divisions within NATO that did not have any peacetime deployments. After serving in Korea and Vietnam, the division demobilized in 1984 and disbanded. However, it re-formed as an army reserve unit (Army Reserve Regiment D) on October 1st, 1989 with Headquarters located at Camp Grant RV Park located just outside of Hickory Hills. He set up a ranch there and started to recruit soldiers for his Cavalry regiment known as "The Wildcats". A year later he formed another militia detachment also known as "Dragoons" which served mostly around Danville but disbanded due to illness or other commitments soon afterwards too. After that General Fetterman enlisted some men from Danville into his Horseback Squadron so they could help him fight against Native Americans who had invaded central Illinois during Black Hawk War (1838-39). 3 years later he recruited more men from Danville into his Dragoons battalion under command of Captain Elijah Harmon who would lead them into Battle of Antelope Creek where they lost 20 out of 25 troopers including Captain Harmon himself along with 3 cannons captured by Indian forces leading to their eventual victory over Native Americans at this battle! In 1846 General Fetterman organized 4 Companies/ Battalions called "Golden West", these companies being: Company A - led by Major George Herron; Company B - led by Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Seymour;Company C - led by Colonel Edward Sibley;and finally Company D - commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Noble Johnson!. During their service these companies fought various battles such as: Perry’s Mill Massacre (1847), Ft Harrison Massacre (1848), Little Rock Campaign (1861), Wrightstown Raid (1862), Springfield Siege (1863), Nashville Assault on Donelson Barracks (November 12, 1863) and Chickamauga Mountain Battle(September 19-21 1865). They all eventually disbanded but their legacy lives on through Golden West Museum located just outside of Hickory Hills today! In 1868 General Moved troops from Danville to Fort Dodge where they served until 1870 when they were relocated back home because new state lines had been drawn following American Civil War! However, many veterans from this deployment still remain living in nearby towns likeDanville today continue their military service tradition through local veteran organizations like Green Berets or Veterans Assisted Living Association

A sawmill also operated in Hickory Hills from about 1877-1887. In 1892, an oil well was drilled on land now located within the limits of Hickory Hills; however, no oil production took place because inadequate supplies of water made drilling too risky. In 1902, a telephone line went into operation between Joliet and Danville; however, due to low phone prices at that time, few people bothered to use it. A post office called "Hickory HIlls" opened in 1922; it eventually became defunct and been replaced by the current one in 1984. In 1951, Interstate 55 bypassed Hickory Hills thanks to construction of I-55 Alternate; however, some residents still feel that their locality has not received enough credit for its role during this project. In 1958-1959 (due to redevelopment efforts happening nearby), many homes were demolished in what is now known as "The Drive". This action caused much outcry among some residents who felt they had lost valuable property while others saw the development as necessary for expansion reasons across the street from their community center which they felt would remain untouched with little impact on their lives or way of life since then.. Today there are several businesses locate within walking distance including two restaurants/bars - one open 24/7 - making Hickory Valley one busy place! There's also Ready Store convenience store located just off I-55 Exit 121 which serves up local groceries & snacks from 7am-10pm along with beer sales all night!
