In 1916 the Lagersgrens opened a second store, which would become the nucleus of what is now known as Herrin Coffee Company. Herrin is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,515 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Herrin was laid out in 1857 by businessmen John and Peter Herrin as a town on the east side of what is now Cicero Avenue in southwest Cook County. The first settler in Herrin was John Prentiss, who arrived in 1857 and platted the village site on April 20 of that year. The original village had a post office, one hotel, two stores and four homes. In 1860, the Post Office building burned down and was replaced by a store built with brick blocks using money from subscription drives to rebuild. In 1861-1862 both public schools were operated by private teachers until state funding became available for education through the Illinois State Board of Education Although many farmers lived near Herrin during its early years due to its fertile land and good water resources, it didn't become an important commercial center until after World War I when breweries began booming throughout Cook County because of Prohibition . During prohibition there were several arrests for " brewing without a license" which led to increased vigilance against alcohol traffickers . For many years it was reported that Herrin's only source of income came from selling eggs! After prohibition ended in 1965 local businesses began expanding into other industries such as trucking services , manufacturing products , construction services In 1984-1985 local voters passed an ordinance providing for economic development opportunities within her community by creating or sponsoring special districts which would develop commercial corridors within her boundaries

Herrin was organized as a town in 1836 and named for Simon Herrin, an early settler. The first post office was established in 1837, and the first store was built in 1840. The first school was built in 1846. In 1861, the town became a village and had its own post office. In 1865, it merged with neighbouring towns of Springdale and Carbondale to form the city of Herrin.
