Tactical coffee was first brewed in Hazel Crest, Illinois in the early 1800s. The town was founded by a group of men who were looking for a place to trade goods and services with other towns. They found a clearing that had been used as an animal pen and began brewing their first cup of coffee.
Hazel Crest is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Hazel Crest was Lorenzo Hayden who arrived on June 10, 1837. He and his wife built a cabin on the east side of Indian Creek. From this location they surveyed and purchased 160 acres (65 hectares) of land for $10 per acre in 1839. They donated their land to the town of Hazel Crest in memory of their infant daughter Laura Jane Hayden whom they had lost when she was kidnapped by Indians in 1836. In 1840, John A. Robertson built a log cabin on one of the original Lots which he donated to Hazel Crest as well as two others that are now part of Villa Park and Hinsdale Township respectively. In 1847-48 Phebe Lovejoy platted what is now Hazel Crest with 3 lots: 1/2 mile east from Alden Road on lot #5; 2 miles north from present day Hinsdale Road on lot #6; and 2 miles west from Dearborn Road on lot #7 which became home to Robertson's sawmill until it burned down in 1898. On May 25, 1865, much to the disappointment of many residents because it did not bode well for growth within their boundaries or near their schools or churches due to railroad tracks running through town center (present day Harrisonburg), Mayor Harry Smedley organized a meeting at First Presbyterian Church located at corner George Street and Elm Avenue to consider ways to make Hazel Crest more prosperous so that people would stay put instead moving into nearby towns like Villa Park or North Aurora while still having access to education and businesses close by including Mr.'s stores such as Grosse Pointe Grocery & Hardware Store & Post Office where mail got delivered until 1975 before being transported by express wagon all the way upstate! After 4 hourslong discussion items were presented such as an improvement district (to be nippled with public funds) annexation into City OfChicago (& other nearby towns) but no decisions were made after 30 minutes! This caused some dissension among residents who felt they had been shortchanged while others felt that if anything could be done then it should have been done! After mayor Harry Smedley's death in 1915 Lincoln Beattie took office as mayor and continued working towards making Hazel Crest more prosperous however less money came available so he disbanded the Improved District Committee also known as "The Dilemma Committee" which consisted mostly businessmen without any farming experience who wanted city hall control over everything including school funding etcetera leading eventually to World War II when most businesses closed down leaving only those run out of Governmental buildings like post office etcetera unconnected with rest of community! So much for making progress under Mayor Beattie... After almost 50 years since its incorporation date - Municipal Building claims today nearly every inch (excluding marshes),of what once comprised “Hazel Crest” – traces can be found right outside its doors… Today’s citizens continue living there despite never seeing a cent return from what was once theirs…
