On February 14, 1850, the Northwest Territory was merged into the United States as a result of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Board of Education case which effectively ended segregation in American schools throughout America based on race until 1964 when desegregation laws were passed nationwide and then repealed by Congress with new anti-segregation bills being passed each time until 1968 when integration finally occurred statewide). After years of effort by activists to end segregation in Harvey (and other cities), it officially became integrated on May 1st 1978 when all black students were admitted to all public schools within city limits without waiting for any testing or certification procedures that would have allowed white students to attend these integrated schools under separate systems; this marks one day after integration had become fully operational statewide in America starting with Chicago’s first public school opening its doors to black children on December 1st 1966).
