This legislation helped support the state's military forces and made Illinois one of only three states with such laws in place at this time. Since 1994, there has been an annual event called "The rifle show." Held at Allen Park Rifle Range, this event is attended by members of both local and federal law enforcement agencies as well as representatives from other parts of the country interested in buying military surplus rifles and shotguns. This unique event helps promote arms trade between different jurisdictions and helps generate income for local businesses that participate in it.

Harvey is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It is located on the eastern edge of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a population of around 10,000. The community was named for James Harvey, who had come to the area in 1847. The Harvey post office was established in 1852, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store in Harvey opened its doors on December 12, 1854. The first settler in Harvey was John Fenton, who purchased 640 acres of land from Jesse Hickey in 1857. By 1870, there were over 30 homes and businesses operating within the community. In 1908, local leaders organized a school district which would serve Harvey until 1934 when it merged into the Illinois School District #2. In 1949, local officials voted to name Harvey after General George Sibley Patton Jr., Commander of Third Army during World War II. As a result of this decision, Patton High School now bears his name. The Community Center also bears his name as does an ice cream truck that tours the town every day throughout summertime called "Patton's". Today there are only a few houses remaining from when Harvey had over 100 residents including churches (St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church & Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church), schools (Thompson-Boling Elementary School & Parkland Intermediate School), grocery stores (Canton Mercantile Company Store & Golden Triangle Grocery), A&W Root Beer Brewery (now defunct), and two filling stations serving fuel and cigarettes - one on Main Street cornering 1st Avenue North and South Streets; other on 2nd Avenue North between State Street & Western Avenue North
There has been a long and varied history of the National Guard, both during wartime and peacetime. It has always played an important role in society, providing law enforcement and security for local communities. In recent years, the National Guard has also become a symbol of patriotism and Americanism. The first national guard units were organized in 1792 as part of the Continental Army. The unit was called the Mounted Rifles and served in northern New England until 1794. From then on, national guard units were used as auxiliaries to various armies throughout America. During the War of 1812, there were 1,500 national guard troops serving in New York City alone. In 1818, Congress passed legislation authorizing establishment of a corps of 500 men under command of a lieutenant colonel to be quartered at West Point for military purposes only. In 1861, when President Abraham Lincoln called up all available male citizens aged 24 or older for service in the Union army, he ordered that all militias within three days must muster at each town or city along the southern border with Missouri (then Confederate territory). This order created 640 new militia companies from among those already mobilized by state militias across America. Between 1861-1865, 2 million men served in uniform in the Union army; 700 thousand more soldiers were drafted into service after Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation on July 4th 1863. Afterward there was increasing demand for additional volunteers as slavery began to collapse around the world following emancipation proclamation. Throughout 1865-1867 there was 1 million enlisted ranks nationally including 310 thousand women who served as nurses and ambulance drivers; this number does not include militiamen who fulfilled other roles such as guardsmen or police officers during this time period

Harvey, Illinois is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Harvey was founded by John Harvey and his wife Martha in 1851 as a stagecoach stop on the now-defunct Butterfield Railroad. The Harvey family continued to operate the business until 1966 when it was sold to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. In 1984, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway merged with Union Pacific Railroad and Harvey became part of UP's Chicago–Iowa City line. The post office at Harvey opened on November 15, 1851, and closed on December 12, 1951. The first settler in Harvey was John Harvey who arrived in 1851 from Ohio with his family. There were only five residents of Harvey at the time of its founding; all of which moved away during its early years because there wasn't much land for development within miles of town center. In 1902-1903 local businessmen organized an agricultural fair that attracted over 100 exhibitors from throughout Cook County and also included nearly fifty miles of track running through town limits making it easy for people to get around without having to drive or walk too far each day. This fair helped bring word about agriculture back into town after being out OF BUSINESS for many years prior due to lack of interest from farmers due to new technology advancements and other factors such as better transportation methods available at that time...
