Harvey is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,563 at the 2000 census. The Harvey-Plymouth School District serves Harveytown and Plympton. The town was platted in 1873 by George W. Prentice. It was named for General James Biddle Harvey (1811–1885), an American general during the Indian Wars and one of the first settlers in what is now Harveytown. The first post office in Harveytown was established in 1875. A train depot and freight stop were built here in 1908; they are still standing today. In 1917, a gasoline station opened here as part of the Great Western Railroad system; it closed in 1951. According to the 2010 census, there are 2,527 people living in Harveytown with a total population of 6,362 residents (of which 5,788 are male and 1,965 female). Of this population: 96% Black or African American; 3% White; 1% Native American or Alaska Natives
