Army Deployed Gift History in Hanover Park, Illinois The United States Army Garrison at Hanover Park was established in 1855 and has been a part of the Chicago metropolitan area since 1903. The garrison is responsible for civilian and military defense within the city limits. It also administers the Soldiers' Home, which is a psychiatric hospital located on North Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. The Soldier's Home provides care for soldiers who have served in World War I, World War II, or both theaters of conflict. The gift history of the Soldiers' Home began in 1903 when Colonel Isaac Prentice donated land to the City of Chicago for an army installation. The first Soldier's Home was built on West Monroe Street and opened to patients on October 1, 1903. At that time, it was one of only two hospitals operated by the Army outside of New York City. A second Soldier's Home was built on South Dearborn Street in 1915 and became operational as a general hospital in 1918. In 1929, it replaced the original Soldiers' Home on North Michigan Avenue which had been damaged by fire two years earlier. In 1959, the Headquarters Battery (3rd Battalion) 315th Artillery Regiment was stationed at the Soldiers'Home after being activated from Fort Sheridan Reserve Basecamp near Rockford Illinois during World War II. That same year saw another donation by Colonel Isaac Prentice- this time with money earmarked specifically for building a dispensary within theSoldiers'Home to treat patients with tuberculosis (TB). The dispensary opened its doors to patients on December 16th, 1959 and remains an integral part of today’s Patients’ Services Department at the Soldiers’Home- providing medical care not just to active duty soldiers but also their families member who resides off base or visit us during their deployment tour! Each donation has had its own impact on how today’s Soldiers’Home functions; from increasing patient numbers over time to creating additional recreational areas such as an outdoor pool for residents living inside during colder months or adding new outpatient clinics such as cardiology/pulmonary medicine/ENT/IUGR & more! Some examples include: 1) A cardiac unit added in 2006 which now offers treatment services including angiography & catheterization; 2) A diabetes unit added in 2009 which now offers medication therapy & support groups; 3) A pulmonary medicine unit added in 2013 which now offers treatments such as bronchoscopy & bypass surgery; 4) An ENT Unit(included ENT assistants/ docs/ nurses)/added primary Care services including procedures like vesicarditis etc.; 5) A massage therapist addition backported into our main facility(included massages / Swedish style)) backdated into ‘96″ and continues provide health benefits today too!

The village was organized in 1871 as a result of the merger of two smaller villages, Hanover and Nottingham. At that time, it was one of the wealthiest villages in Will County due to its location on Lake Michigan and its abundance of resources such as lumber and agriculture. However, over time, Hanover Park's wealth began to decline as its infrastructure became increasingly limited. In 2000, the villagers passed a resolution seeking to dissolve themselves into the larger city of Chicago. However, this proposal was defeated by a vote of only 7-3%. Today, Hanover Park remains an unincorporated community with no direct connection to either Chicago or any other municipality within Will County. Although little is known about the history or culture of Hanover Park before its incorporation into Chicago in 1871, there are several clues which suggest that it may have been formed from among some of Illinois' earliestsettlers who had made their homes along what is now Lake Michiganfrontage roads near present day Hanover Park Boulevard and Indiana Avenue (now State Street). One source suggests that early residents named their village after properties they located within what is now Holyoke Township - including lands owned by John Dearborn (the founder of what would later become Holyoke) and his son Oliver Dearborn - while another suggests that these first settlers may have gathered around a fire which burned during winter evenings near where current day Old National Road crosses Ohio Avenue northbound). In any case, those who arrived soon after did not hesitate to capitalize on their new surroundings; many built luxurious homes catering specifically to their classrequisites such as fine dining establishments like The Gilded Cage (later renamed The Ritz) and fashionable night clubbing spots like The Canaries (later renamed Galaxy).
