The shop was also home to one of the first Marine Ice Rinks in America! The shop continued trading until it closed its doors in 1957 due to financial difficulties. However, during its time at 515 Wabash Avenue it served as an important community center for residents of Grayslake-Waldorf Park. In 1978 the shop reopened under new ownership but continued operations only until 1991 when itclosed again due to lack of customer demand. After four failed attempts at reopening by different owners over several years, Marine Gifts finally closed its doors for good on July 1st., 1991 after 53 years of operation! The history of marine gifts in Grayslake, Illinois goes back to at least 1892. That year, the Grayslake Yacht Club established a gift shop on the harbor. The shop offered items related to boating and sailing, as well as shells and other aquatic objects. In 1933, the club held its first picnic ashore. That event was followed by a summer sailing festival in 1934. In 1938, the Grayslake Yacht Club started selling ice cream from their concession stand on the harbor. From that point onward, marine gifts became an important part of the club's annual programming.
Grayslake, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern corner of the state of Illinois. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Grayslake is bordered by Hammond to the north, Maywood to the east and south, and Park Ridge to the west. The village of Grayslake was incorporated in 1868 and lies within its boundaries. Grayslake is known for its agricultural products, including apples, corn (maize), potatoes, pork bellies and other food items exported to various parts of the world. There are several golf courses in Grayslake - one being Orchard Hills Golf Course which was built in 1964 and has Championship-level status. Other attractions include Lake Michigan shoreline walks adjacent to Grayslake beachfront as well as three parks - Woodlawn Park on Northwestern Boulevard across from town hall; Downer Park on Irving Avenue between County Road D and Dryden Road; and Elmhurst Park on Elmhurst Drive between State Street and Highways 606/ contraceptive pills named after famous women such as Marilyn Monroe The first settler in what would become Grayslake was James DeVos who arrived in 1819 with his family from Holland Township, Pennsylvania. He donated land to form what would become our town square today. In 1836 John Ahern purchased some property adjoining James DeVorssons lot for $4 per acre ($48 later). This land became home to many earlier settlers including: Elisha Cook (1815-1887), Ebenezer Cook (1795-1871), Amos Hitchcock (1800-1869) Solomon Pratt (1798-1867) Jedediah Mclntyre (1791-1860) Alexander Cadwallader Grant (1800–64) John Prentice’s father Emmett Prentice(1688–1772). In 1870 George Washington Carver moved into this area from Batavia Township near Rockford IL where he had been born in 1794 When Theodore Roosevelt came down with a case of pneumonia at Oak Woods Sanitarium near Chicago on April 12th 1906 he was placed under quarantine at Drury Lane Hospital where he remained until his death on April 14th 2006 at age 88 years old Theodore Roosevelt's last resting place can be found just outside Grayslake on a quiet country lane called "Park View"

Grayslake, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,998 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest town in Cook County and the largest community in Macomb County by land area. Grayslake lies on the east bank of the Macomb River between Lake Orion to its south and Herndon Heights to its north. The first Europeans to visit Grayslake were French traders who landed there during the 17th century. The name "Grayslake" was given to it by George Griggs, a farmer from Gloucester Township in New Jersey who purchased land here in 1784. In 1811, John Richardson built a sawmill on what is now State Street near Grayslake High School after opening his mill at what is now Mill Creek Drive. By 1820, Richardson's gristmill had been replaced by a flouring mill which began producing flour for local farmers soon after that. In 1839, John Stephenson opened his store here which became one of the earliest stores west of Chicago as well as one of America's first department stores with an extensive range of merchandise including groceries and notions. In 1865–66, Revkin Brothers installed electric lights at two locations: one near State Street and another near Stevenson Road (now Diversey Parkway). That year also saw the construction of First Presbyterian Church (later known as First Methodist) located at 95 Noland Road across from Stevenson road; this church served as the centerpiece of Grayslake's development until it burned down in 1938 following a fire caused by lightning.. In 1904-1905 when Route 66 was constructed through Cook County from Chicago via Indianapolis over Clearwater Creek into Macomb County, most residents along I-465 took up residence along Route 66 north of their homes or within walking distance thereof; however some residents continued to live on their rural properties east of I-465 until automobiles arrived and made their transportation available everywhere they wished.... By 1960 only 6%of Grayslake's total population lived within 2 milesçof either school or shopping centers while almost all those living more than 5 miles away exercised purchase power over most businesses.....Today less than 1%of residents still reside within easy reachÆof either schools or shopping centers ....... Most Main Streets still carry names such as Elmira Road or Sheridan Rd., while many streets have no name whatsoever remaining throughout much of today’s township....... Today’s citizens are proud owners and operators not just shareholders in their community but active members engaged day/night - playing role both political and civic affairs
