In Godfrey, Illinois, coffee has been brewed for over a century. The first coffee beans were roasted on the family farm in 1892. Coffee was brought to Godfrey by wagonloads from Illinois and Nebraska. Godfrey's coffee tradition started with small farmers who roamed the country buying their beans direct from the growers. Today, many of Godfrey's businesses have affiliations with one or more of its local coffee roasters. The early pioneers in this industry were women: Maria Jackson helped found the first grocery store in Godfrey in 1886 and later ran it with her sister Bertha. In 1912, Mrs. Lillian Sarton opened her own grocery and café on Main Street near the railroad tracks which became known as "Sarton's Coffee Shop." Maria Jackson also helped start a cooperative marketing program that led to today’s widespreadBuena Park Coffee Company network of stores throughout central Illinois! From 1912-1971 Buena Park Roastery & Cafe served as an affiliate of America’s firstInternational Coffee Union (ICU). It wasn't until 1969 that Buena Park finally became its own independent business entity. Today, we continue our story at our new location - The Depot - where we roast world-class coffees every day!

Godfrey, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 721 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield– Carbondale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1852 by Godfrey and Hennepin County natives John and Sarah Booth. They named it after their father-in-law, General Israel Booth (1786-1848), who had fought for the United States during the Mexican War and then served in Congress as a delegate from Illinois. When General Booth died on July 10, 1852, his family donated six acres of land to the town for its first post office or store. The original store building still stands today on Main Street near where the current school building stands. In 1855, Godfrey added a second post office to its name when it became apparent that there would be more than one in each county within Illinois due to growing population density. By 1860, Godfrey had reached its present size with a population of 1,000 residents and two churches: First Presbyterian and Second Methodist Episcopal (both now gone). In 1871 an act was passed by the state legislature which provided for township organization within McLean County; this event marked what has been called "the birth of Godfrey." It should be noted that this Act did not create any townships specifically within McLean County but rather established township organization throughout all of Cook County overall as well as Kane County east of Chicago Heights (now Elmhurst). In 1876 farming began to take hold in what had been primarily forested territory; some trees wereLogged before this time! At about this time also 2 schools were built: one for boys only on Main street corner opposite Post Office & Store old church used since early 1800s; other for girls on same sitechool open 8am - 4pm CST from 1870 until 1920 when new building was erected near State Fairgrounds

Godfrey is a small town in northwestern Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Godfrey is part of the Peoria-Centralia, IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in Sangamon County. The first human being to live in Godfrey was Abram who arrived in 1814 from Mesopotamia. Abram was followed by his wife Sarai and their son Ishmael. The first school in Godfrey opened up on December 12, 1827 and operated for 3 years until September 1830 when it closed due to lack of funds. In 1829, Reverend John Pemberton opened a Methodist church which continued to operation until 1840 when it closed because of financial problems again. In 1841 Reverend James Sibley moved into the community and started teaching school there for 2 years before moving on to start a academy there which he ran until 1865 when he died suddenly leaving his property to be used as an academy He also donated land for a new cemetery which was finished in 1860 and still exists today In 1861 Reverend George Wigglesworth added another story house onto his farm west of the old Academy building becoming known as "Wigglesworth's House". This addition served as the first home of the township hall which currently stands vacant but has been converted into apartments on top since 1978 From 1865 until 1932, Godfrey had its own post office called Gordan where mail was sent twice daily between Peoria and Godfrey using wagons that hauled hay from nearby fields back and forth . In 1932, with the opening of the Interstate Highway System (I- roads), Gordan became an interchange point for I- highways with other communities within Sangamon County including Peoria When I- highways were decommissioned during World War II, Gordon reverted back to its original name once again becoming an unincorporated community once again pending further development . As early as 1916 local farmers began planting corn crops on their land near what is now Main Street while others began growing soybeans around 1950s or so. By 1970 or so most residents were self-employed agriculturalists engaged in various types of farming including wheat production; soybean production; dairy; pork processing; cottonseed oil production; salt production etc.. However some residents continued working at local businesses such as Mr./Mrs.(First Name)/Mr./Ms.(Last Name)’s hardware store through out this period such as Mrs./Mrs.(First Name)/Ms.(LastName)’s dry goods store which closed down circa 2006 but reopened under new management circa 2008 although it does not carry any inventory anymore There have been A few cases where people have left town for greener pastures such as one family who moved away about 2003 after purchasing a piece of land outside of town limits but decided against returning due to environmental concerns although they remain registered voters hereabouts Some residents have even left because they found something better elsewhere like one couple who recently left after discovering that they could no longer produce enough food themselves without irrigation despite maintaining over $100K worth of solar panels installed throughout their home several years ago Although many people hereabouts continue Cultivating ancestral grains like corn/maize etc., this type agriculture is increasingly being replaced by industrialized varieties like maize/canola etc...duemainly dueto increasing competition from neighboring towns surrounding them For instance: Hwy 9 Rd just east side formerly Watson's grocery Store has recently become Kroger (brand name Old Price) with more than 100 stores across6 states plus Puerto Rico all serving same prices!!!
