Glenview, Illinois is a small town located in the Clinton County region of Illinois. The population was 8,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Glenview is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and was founded on April 14, 1787 by Captain James Connolly and his wife Catherine. The original settlers were Scotch-Irish immigrants who had come to America from Ulster in Ireland. The first store in Glenview was built by John Doherty and opened on May 10, 1801. By 1830, there were six stores in Glenview. In 1868, the first post office was established in Glenview. The Village of Glenview was organized on November 3, 1971 under state law No. 924-71. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 9,362 people living within its limits (6 villages plus 1 incorporated municipality). Glenview’s rich history begins with its namesake captain and wife—James Connolly and Catherine—who both came to America from Ulster some time around 1787: Connolly because he wanted to see new opportunities for himself and Catherine because she couldn’t bear living back home again after spending time near her family during her childhood years (she would later recall that “the proximity to my own kindred made me so happy that I could not resist coming here”). After landing at Plymouth Rock on April 14th they set out westward across country until they reached what is now Clinton County – then called Cookstown – on October 6th 1787; thenceforth their story takes an eventful turn as they traded goods with various Native Americans along their journey before finally settling down permanent adjacent to what would become known as village site #1 just north of current day Elmhurst Road (Route 5), about two miles east from where today’s intersectionwith Elmhurst Road meets present day Park Ridge Road (Route 131) – making this one very early settler community! Just over a century later we can still enjoy many benefits associated with our name such as Glennway Elementary School which seats approximately 540 students grades K-12; Stonington Landing Marina & Clubhouse which offers fishing & boating seasonally available; lovely downtown storefront buildings complete with beautiful stone facade (& rooflines!), including one building currently housing our post office since 1901; handsome sodalike Presbyterian church District 2 erected circa 1870/71 which features beautifully carved Revival style doors incorporating keyhole openings into each panel similar to those found at Westminster Abbey located outside London; popular local ice cream parlor “Cinderella” long closed but reopened recently as an attraction featuring several flavors unique to this locale including strawberry lemonade filled waffle cones (!); increasingly popular grocery store anchor "Super Stop" located opposite busy arterial streets only minutes' walk away serving up healthy groceries all summer long year round! All told these cafes etc., have added up pretty darn well for an entire town that's only about 7 square miles!!!

The City Council also meets periodically but does not have any power over city operations or budgets except for setting salaries for council members which are reviewed every year by Mayor McCarthy himself
