The United States Army was founded in 1775, and the first troops were raised in Glenview, Illinois. The city's location on the banks of the Mississippi River made it a natural recruiting ground for the military. After World War II, when defense spending increased throughout the country, Glenview became one of the most important army garrison towns in Illinois. In 1951, soldiers from Fort Worth, Texas began stationed at Glenview to participate in Operation Neptune's Spear. This was an effort to stop North Korea from developing nuclear weapons. In 1978, soldiers from Fort Hood took part in Desert Storm during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. In 1990-1991, members of the 1st Infantry Division headquartered at Ft. Riley staged a coup d'état against their commander Lieutenant General Michael Jowers. The military coup led to civilian rule in India and setting off a wave of violence throughout India that lasted until 1996. On July 20th 1941, Nazi Germany attacked Pearl Harbor; this set off World War II and transformed what had been little more than a local skirmish into one of history's largest and deadliest wars. United States forces played an essential role in repelling Japan's attack on Hawaii; as many as 50% of all combat fatalities occurred here within days of battle beginning! Some 500 US servicemen were killed or wounded at Pearl Harbor alone! The USS Missouri was also lost here during WWII - her loss is still commemorated by Memorial Day each year along with other USSs lost during that conflict including USS Arizona (KL-4), USS Oklahoma (BB-36), USS West Virginia (BB-59), USS Memphis (MSF-3) and USS San Antonio (LST-521). Thanks to those men and women who fought and died here at home and abroad over those fateful years there can be no overestimate just how significant our Armed Forces have become...and remain today!

Glenview is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,482 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The small village of Glenview which surrounds the town limits has a population of 5,527. Glenview was laid out in 1857 by George Smith and named after Captain John Glencoe who participated in the Illinois Expedition against Mexico in 1846. In 1862, James Fenton donated land to the town for public school purposes. In 1865, a post office called Glenview was established and remained open until it closed in 1902. From its inception until 1959, Glenview had two churches: First Presbyterian and Second Baptist (now known as Gateway Christian Church). In 1958, the town became an independent municipality with full voting rights and renamed itself Glenview Township. The township also annexed portions of neighboring townships including Morton Grove and Hinsdale Heights to form a new city-like entity with its own police department and fire department that became known as "The Village". As part of this reorganization process, all but one of the original buildings within Glennway Stadium were demolished to make way for new development on what is now known as North Main Street between State Street and Western Avenue. In 2007-2008 Mayor Michael Bloomberg funded $2 million worth of renovations to Glennway Stadium which included resurfacing streets around it as well as installation of new lighting and heating/cooling systems among other enhancements. These improvements helped increase attendance at games played at Glennway Stadium from 8,000 spectators per game during Bloomberg's first season to over 19,000 spectators each game during his second season; making it one of the top attended venues across sports leagues in America simultaneously during those years!

It is the most populous town in Cook County and one of the nine towns in the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Glenview" means "high ground". The town was founded on a tract of land that was donated by Valentine Glenn (1812-1895). The first settler in what would become Glenview was John Addison who came to the area from Michigan in 1847. Addison's brother married Sarah Moody, daughter of Major General Nathan Moody. Mrs. Moody donated 4,000 acres (16 km²) of her estate for the establishment of Glenview Township on November 1, 1854. Founded as a village by order of Mayor Francis Hendrickson on July 10, 1861 (the date also marks the beginning of what would become Park Forest), Glenview lost its charter on January 6, 1966 when it merged with neighboring park forest to form one larger community under mayoral rule. At its peak during World War II it had a population of over 30K residents and employed 350 people out of an overall workforce totaling nearly 60K jobs; however following economic recession and changes throughout post-war America this number plummeted to just 16K residents today due largely to gentrification within city limits; while some businesses have closed their doors due to changing competition or lack thereof while others such as Fitness First have successfully thrived despite having few employees inside city limits including street parking which can be accessed without taking public streets outside city limits
