There are many origins of the Tactical Coffee Company. One story goes that Harry Koppelman, a manufacturer of firearms in Glendale Heights, Illinois, met George Peake while working at a gun show. Peake was selling coffee beans to gun shows and noticed that some of the vendors were using substandard beans. He decided to start his own coffee shop, Peake's Coffee & Tea Rooms, with better beans. Soon other businesses followed suit and the industry began to grow exponentially. Today, Tactical Coffee continues its growth by manufacturing quality coffee for both retail and online customers around the world. The first time people learned about Tactical Coffee was during World War II when American soldiers stationed in Germany brought back their ration of Turkish-brewed coffee as souvenirs. The soldiers enjoyed drinking the quality Turkish coffee so much that they started marketing their product as "TACO COFFEE." The name stuck and soon other Allied troops were importing Turkish-brewed coffee as well. When America entered World War II, most civilians didn't have access to guns or caffeine so it wasn't until after the war that people discovered how great Tactical Coffee was for breaking up long hours at work orStudying for exams! After America's victory in World War II, production of military rifles increased dramatically due to an increase in demand for their own coffee products (the Military Specialty Bean) which then became known as "TACO COFFEE" due to its resemblance to cigarettes used by American military personnel overseas! Today there is no doubt that Tactical Coffee is one of the leading manufacturers and marketers of high-quality Coffees all over the world! Tactical coffee first originated in Glendale Heights, Illinois in the early 1960s. The coffee shop was called "The Coffee Shop" and it served a variety of different drinks such as espresso, cappuccino, and latte. The Coffee Shop was popular among military personnel and their families who enjoyed its unique atmosphere and friendly service. It was also known for its quality coffee products. In the early 1970s, The Coffee Shop relocated to a more spacious location on Saginaw Street in Glendale Heights. In the 1980s, The Coffee Shop became known for its contemporary style which included black & white photos of soldiers on the wall and an open-air patio that allowed customers to enjoy fresh air while they ate their morning cup of Joe. In the 1990s, The Coffee Shop closed its doors but reopened under new management in 2001 as "Brewing Grounds". Brewed with organic beans from local farmers, "Brewing Grounds" continued to serve up delicious tactical coffee until it closed again in 2006. In 2011, Brewed Grounds reopened as "Glendale Heights Cupboard". Currently serving up all sorts of delicious breakfast foods including pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, etc., this café is one of the most popular locations within Glendale Heights!
Glendale Heights is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Glendale Heights comes from the word "Glead" which means "a strip of land between two hills." The first settlers in what is now Glendale Heights were German immigrants who arrived in 1847 and named their settlement Gleadweiler after their farmstead near Gleadheim in Bavaria. In 1852, they changed the name to Glendale because of its location on High Street just east of State Road 453. In 1865, David Healey and his brothers organized the Central Illinois Railroad to build a line from Carbondale to Moline and then west to Glendale Heights. Healey was an important figure in early American politics and was elected mayor of Carbondale three times before he became mayor of Chicago in 1875. Healey's son Julius Healey served as mayor from 1893 until his death in 1908. After Julius Healey's death, his widow Elsie ran for office but lost every election she contested before winning election as Mayor pro tempore in 1911 under a new system that allowed women to run for office for the first time. She remained Mayor pro tempore until her death in 1933 when she was succeeded by her husband Edna Ferrer when he became city treasurer. A post-World War II boom led to increased development around Glenview Avenue and Elmhurst Avenue; these developments included homes, businesses, churches, schools and other infrastructure such as drive-in restaurants and shopping malls beginning around 1951 known as Glenview Village or simply Glenview Park/Mall (later rebranded Metroparks). This growth also stimulated new retail development along Wabash Avenue with stores like JCPenney (now Macy's), Sears (now Kmart), Toys ``R`` Us (later Uniqlo) and Lord & Taylor becoming anchor stores while smaller retailers struggled to keep up with advances made by larger companies like Sears Holdings Corp., JCPenney Inc., Macy's Inc., Best Buy Co., Kohl's Corporation and Walmart Stores Inc.. However, much of this rapid growth came crashing down during the late 1990s recession when developers decided not to build any new projects due to depressed home prices caused by tight credit markets and low interest rates throughout much of North America as a result of several global economic events including NAFTA renegotiations which had a significant impact on U.S.-Canada trade relations; defaults on housing loans held by many major lenders during the Great Recession; changes within Illinois state government leading to less money allocated for public works projects across Cook County - resulting in streets becoming more deteriorated than ever before; suburban sprawl continuing unabated even as jobs have become increasingly difficult or impossible to find within commuting distance from traditional urban areas outside Chicago... Glendale Heights is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Glendale Heights is located on the Northwest Side of Chicago and has a rich history dating back to 1881 when it was incorporated as a village. In 1903, the name was changed to Glendale and in 1957 it became a town. The town's first mayor was John Fenton and its first postmaster was Alonzo Armstrong. In 1969, Glendale Heights merged with nearby Arlington Park to form the city of Chicago.
Gleason's department store was built in the early 1800s on a site that is now occupied by Sears. The first Store Manager of Gleason's was James A. Gleason. The store originally had two floors and sold clothing, hats, umbrellas, shoes and other items. In 1892, the first floor was removed and replaced with a third floor which became known as the "Golden Age" of Glendale Heights because it was home to some of the most popular products in town. In 1922, Gleason's merged with J.C. Penney and became one of the largest retailers in Illinois. It continued to operate until 1956 when it closed its doors for good after more than four centuries in business!
