The first mention of maga coffee being brewed in Glendale Heights was in 1919 when Harry Kellar purchased a small plot of land near downtown Glendale Heights for $1,000. Kellar had learned about Turkish Coffee while serving in World War I as an American soldier and he wanted to bring this traditional beverage back into his home country. In 1921, Harry Kellar Jr., son of Harry Kellar Sr., opened the first maga coffee shop in Glendale Heights called “The Turk”. At that time, there were only a few hundred people living in Glendale Heights and Harry Kellar knew that he needed to find a way to keep his town alive during these tough times. He decided to start brewing his own maga coffee so that people could enjoy this unique beverage at home without having to go outside! In recent years, maga coffee has spread around the world again because of its delicious flavor and versatile uses. It can now be found all over Europe, Asia Minor, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa – just some of the many countries where it is enjoyed by people of all ages! The first European settlers in Glendale Heights were Italian immigrants who arrived in 1847. The original name of the community was Villa Romana, which means "Roman Villa." It was renamed Glendale Heights after Jesse Ogden Armour, president of American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). Armour donated land near his home in this community for a telephone company town site. The first telephone line from Glendale Heights to Chicago was built in 1885 by Charles Towne Bellamy and it functioned as an early wireless communications service. During World War II, many thousands of soldiers from Illinois served on overseas battlefields including those from Glendale Heights. Many buildings still stand that were used during the war such as Fort Sheridan (now part of Ford Park), North Park Elementary School, and South Park Elementary School. In 1948, when Griggs Elevator Company closed down their plant in Glenview IL, they moved their operations into what is now known as Griggs Annex on Racine Street near Downers Grove Avenue in Glendale Heights

Glendale Heights, Illinois is a small town in the northern Illinois suburbs of Chicago. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. The name "Glendale Heights" is derived from two words: glen and hights. Glen means hill and heights refers to the large trees that line the streets of Glendale Heights. The first settlers in Glendale Heights were farmers who arrived in 1847. By 1870, Glendale Heights had a population of 400 residents and was part of the Clinton Township School District. In 1898, Glendale Heights became its own municipality with a population of 1,000 residents. In 1907, voters passed a referendum to incorporate as a village without voting on whether to have an elementary school or high school. The vote failed by 2-to-1 but Glendale Heights did have its first public primary school opening in 1911 followed by its second in 1916. During World War II, much of what is now downtownGlendale Heights was built as military housing for troops stationed nearby at Little Rock Air Force Base and other locations around Chicago. Today much of downtown Glendale Heights still bears evidence of those years including numerous Army Reserve/National Guard barracks (the last being closed down in early 2016), Ulysses S Grant Park (named for General Ulysses S Grant who lived near campus during his life), and several old industrial buildings that still stand today including one dating back to 1903 that has been converted into apartments called "The Gables". Today, there are many businesses located throughout downtownGlendale Heights giving it a lively feel despite its small size; some examples include Subway sandwiches store (which opened up shop inside an old Masonic Temple building on South Archer Avenue), Ford dealership across from KFC restaurant (now home to Noodle House Chinese restaurant), Dunkin' Donuts coffee shop/diner next door to Barnes & Noble bookstore/, PNC Bank branch across from Sears department store (), pizza place called "Pizza Place", ice cream parlor called "Ice Creamery", chiropractor office (which opened up next door to Applebee's restaurant) among others

The town quickly became a center for the agricultural industry, with many small businesses and homes being built during its early years. The city's growth culminated in the late 19th century when it annexed the neighboring towns of Winnetka and Arlington. In 1910, Glendale Heights became a city under the terms of the Chicago City Charter.
