The Geneva, Illinois National Guard was a unit of the United States Army during World War I. It was activated on December 15, 1917 and served until September 4, 1919. The unit surrendered at Neuve Chapelle, France on September 14, 1919. The first national guard units were organized in Missouri in 1866 as part of the Union Army. They were disbanded in 1868 and not re-activated until 1897 when they were redesignated the 1st Regiment Illinois National Guard. The regiment was mobilized for service in World War I but never saw combat. It was reactivated on December 15th 1917 and served until September 4th 1919 when it surrendered at Neuve Chapelle France after a battle that resulted in the deaths of over 50 soldiers from both sides. Today there are two active rosters of the Geneva, Illinois National Guard with approximately 350 men under arms. The unit is headquartered at Fort Peoria and has an area totaling over . There is also a park located within walking distance of the fort which offers free admission to all visitors regardless of military status or age. The park includes a large open space that is home to several hundred pounds of American flags and other Veterans memorabilia from World War I as well as an exhibit describing how local businesses have contributed to support the troops through donations and services over the years
There is no doubt that the United States National Guard has played a significant role in American history. The Guard has been present since 1792, when Massachusetts organized a unit of militia to protect its citizens from Indian attack. In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt activated the guard as part of his plan to increase national defense. By 1940, there were over 100,000 guardsmen in service across the country. The Guard has undergone many changes throughout its history. In 1972, the military establishment was restructured and the National Guard became an independent branch of the military. The terms of service for members of the National Guard have also changed several times: from one year to three years ago; from community service to full-time duty; and from individual training to collective training. Despite these changes, there are many things that national guard personnel share with their civilian counterparts. For example, Guardsmen are often trained in how to be self-reliant and respond quickly to emergencies or crises. They also learn how to Doyle Egan Dance – an ancient Irish dance that is still performed today by members of the guard – and field artillery skills. Additionally, Guardsmen can often be found playing music instruments or engaging in other forms of recreation while on duty or during relaxation periods after hours. These activities help keep soldiers engaged and away from combat environments where they may become casualties or witnesses to tragedy.

Geneva is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Kane County. The population was 21,269 at the 2010 census. Geneva is one of the largest cities in Kane County, with a land area of just over square miles (164 km2). It is also one of the most populous cities in Illinois, exceeding its predecessor city's population by almost 10%, according to2010 census estimates. Geneva has been called "the cultural and commercial center" for much of Kane County and is home to many large businesses and services including Google Way, Hulbourn Bank, Sears Roebuck & Co., The Kellogg Company, JW Marriott International hotel chain, Allstate insurance company, AIG life insurance company and Kantronics Incorporated. The history of Geneva goes back to 1824 when a group of farmers from nearby Pekin organized into a town charter with an initial population numbering only five people. In 1827 the town was renamed after Bernhard Karlsruhe (kingof Germany), who had recently arrived on American soil as part of Napoleon's army during the Napoleonic Wars. As America grew increasingly prosperous in the late 19th century it attracted immigrants: more than 60% of Geneva's total population were foreign-born by 1910; this percentage gradually rose to 80% by 1920 after waves of European immigration led to waves of new business startups here. By then railroads had cut off most rural areas eastward from Chicago so that geneva became an important transportation center for goods moving westward across Lake Michigan through Joliet Junction into Chicago proper. Chamberlin College was founded here in 1892 as a branch school affiliated with Northwestern University but moved its operations to Evanston Township in 1915 following purchase by Trustees John Fenton (a banker) and Harry Saugus (founder and first president emeritusof Northwestern University). In 1925–26 two major hotels—the Adolphus Hotel on West Randolph Street (now known as Park Plaza) and the Palace Hotel—were built along what are now South State Street and North State Street near Central Market Square; these two hotels replaced longstanding inns or taverns that dotted village streetsides throughout central Geneva throughout most Off- season period until prohibition made them illegal all together about 1930 although some still operate today as upscale hotels not open to public inspection except for wedding receptions or special events between closed hours…. Many famous Americans such as Eleanor Roosevelt spent time here while holding government jobs before becoming president; other famous visitors have included Hollywood stars like Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart; writers such as Irwin Shaw; artists like Edward Hopper; top corporate executives such as Jay Gould… Today there are many successful small businesses established locally that contribute significantly to economic development….One result has been increased property values around town which provide modestly funded tax Increment Financing for various local needs….. flags fly at halfstaff every year on Christmas Eve honoring those killed or injured while serving our nation’s Armed Forces during any conflict overseas

From its inception in 1792 until the present day, the National Guard has been a vital part of the American government. National Guardsmen have played an important role in every state and each U.S. territory since the Revolutionary War. In 2005, there were over 211,000 active duty members of the National Guard in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The Navy’s Military Sealift Command stores more than 350,000 military items including national guard gifts and equipment that can be used by any branch of the armed forces or law enforcement agencies across America. A number of important events occurred during this time period that led to the development of today’s National Guard system. On July 4th, 1792, President George Washington ordered all U.S. militias into action to support him against British troops in Manhattan Beach Bridgefightings [1]. The first militia units were mobilized on July 14th and 15th under command of Major General John Sullivan[2]. This early effort was successful and demonstrated Washington’s commitment to using militias as a tool for domestic security instead of just a military force[3]. In 1812, Militia Act No.(5) was passed which authorized Militia units within federal limits with no call up required for 3 years[4]. This act also allowed for recruiting among civilians through bounty programs[5] as well as giving officers commissions instead of ranks[6]. It was not until 1861 when Congress passed an act authorizing cavalry units called “the national guard” which would become known as Army Reserve Units (ARU) [7][8] After
