Curtis LeMay for his new Air National Guard base at Peoria, Illinois. TheAAF has given over 1,500 gifts to Federal and State agencies since its inception. One of the most famous and well-known gifts given by the USAF is the Boeing 747 airliner which was gifted to Saudi Arabia in 1973 as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between America and Saudi Arabia during the Vietnam War. This unique plane played an important role in evacuating American citizens from South Vietnam before it was destroyed over Laos in 1975. Another highly memorable gift was provided to India in 1992 when General Colin Powell became President of India and made a presentation on behalf of America’s friend India at Shimla Cantonment this airplane designed by Boeing called “The Spirit of India”. Geneva, Illinois is a small town in the Kane County area of Illinois. The population was 568 at the 2010 census. Geneva's history dates back to 1824 when it was founded as a trading post by fur traders on the confluence of the Kankakee and Des Plaines Rivers. Geneva has been home to a number of prominent residents over its history including Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln and Calvin Coolidge. In 1872, Geneva merged with neighboring towns of Rome and Crystal City to form what is now known as Rome-Geneva Township. On July 1, 1907, Geneva became an independent municipality under the name of Geneva-Crystal City Township (renamed Rome-Geneva Township in 1990). In 1917, after World War I ended, Josephine Baker visited Geneva for two weeks while she was visiting her daughter in Chicago before returning home to return to America. She donated $10,000 towards the erection of a municipal building which would serve as both city hall and cultural center for the community. In 1925, crystal clear waters were discovered on the Kankakee River which led to rapid growth in fishing and farming activity withinseen boundaries of Geneva; this increased traffic demand caused development along Route 22 leading from downtown into rural areas beyond town limits until it eventually truncated at Dundee Road east of town limits creating what is now residential neighborhoods east and west of downtown. On January 12th 1957, due to heavy snowfall conditions widespread throughout Kane County resulting from severe cold weather that had swept across much of Northern Illinois earlier that winter; all schools were closed in most parts of Kane County effective February 14th57 through February 17th57 inclusive; geneva operated successfully without any major issues during these difficult times thanks largely in part theretoforetoing volunteer fire departments who responded voluntarily with little or no pay/benefit arrangements currently extant within Geneve Townships government structure at that time other than 50¢ per hour assessed rates levied against properties located “outside”of village boundaries thereby limiting access necessary for emergency response during extreme weather events such as those mentioned hereinabove [i]. On July 4, 1814, representatives of the United States and Great Britain signed a treaty at the Palazzo Madama in Geneva, Italy that formalized their partnership in the newly forming European Union. The treaty included a clause prohibiting any future war between the two countries. The city of Geneva was founded on May 11, 1795 by Swiss refugees from Austria who had fled to Switzerland during the Revolutionary War. They named their new city after Mount Geneve (Geneva) because it was thought that its height would protect them from attack by France. In 1814, when Napoleonic France invaded Switzerland, Geneva became an important military and political center due to its location on both sides of the Rhine River. The city's importance continued until World War I when it lost most of its commercial and cultural significance.
