Grant's birthplace in central Illinois – much to the chagrin of many local residents who considered him responsible for their town's name change! In 1868, Galesburgh became one of thirteen communities within McLean County when it was organized from parts of Collins Grove Township west of downtown Springfield – including what is now Arlington Heights – due to increasing population growth within that county during that decade. That same year saw another major event take place in the town: General Ulysses S. Grant's visit there to give speeches before a crowd estimated at over 20,000 people! In honorof this historical figure and others associated with Galesburgh throughout its years as an unincorporated community/township, Streetsboro Park was built on land donated by Mrsgrant shortly thereafter – becoming one of Springfield’s earliest centerpieces! Today, despite some challenges faced by its citizens such as high levels OF poverty and unemployment rates among young adults aged 15-24 years old (the top job market sector nationally), Galesburgh continues to thrive thanks largely to its strong economy and supportive community spirit!
