Haywood and his brother-in-law, Hiram Percy Hammond, opened The Freedom Coffee Company on White Street in Freeport. The company soon became well known for its quality beans and delicious coffee drinks. In 1976, The Freedom Coffee Company was purchased by Starbucks Corporation. Over the years, Starbucks has made many changes to their Freeport location – from adding a grocery store in 2001 to renovated stores in 2007 and 2013. However, even with these changes, it is clear that The Freedom Coffee Company has always had a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

One such cafe was The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. The coffee shop served up traditional Americano coffee from start to finish, as well as a wide variety of other items like pastries and sandwiches.Like most old timers in Freeport, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf had an extensive history dating back to when the area first started growing coffee beans. In 1865, John Bogle opened his first store in what is now known as downtown Freeport. At the time, it was one of the only businesses in town and he sold coffee until late at night. By 1969, Bogle had retired from business and his son-in-law John Kapp took over operation of the store. Kapp is considered one of the key figures in Freeport's coffee industry because he ran it for almost fifty years before selling it to Sul Ross Brewing Co., which continues to operate it today.
Freeport is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,075 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The town's name is derived from the French word "ferme" (farm), which means "place for cattle." The first settlement in what would become Freeport was made on December 6, 1814 by three men named John Dickenson, George Stephenson and Jesse Jameson. They built a log cabin on a small island in the Rock River. In 1825 the village of Freeport was founded about half a mile to the east of where Freeport now stands. A post office called Freeport was established in 1827 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1865. In 1847 David Brown purchased land northeast of present-day Freeport and began development of what would become Brownstown Township.brownstown became an independent municipality on March 17, 1889 when it absorbed portions of Cook County north of Lake Michigan Avenue. On January 1, 1907, portions including those near present-day Elmwood Park were merged into neighboring Armour Heights to form what is now known as North Beach Township

At this point in time, some Europeans began using less altitude to roast their beans – instead they would use lower levels of heat to achieve a smooth cup of espresso than earlier generations had done. This caused an increase in bitterness since higher levels of heat resulted in harsher flavors (though it also made for more flavorful cups).

In 1856, the original post office was moved to its present location on Third Street. In 1872, the city of Chicago annexed Freeport and many other rural towns within its boundaries. One of the first things Mayor Lorenzo Thomas did when he took office was to erect a tower at what is now Erieview Park to commemorate this occasion In 1896, Freeport became home to one of the world's first automated electric lights systems when it received an installation from General Electric Company (GE). At that time GE had only begun development of its electric light system across America and didn't have a plant in America yet! In 1907/08 GE installed an automatic water main line through Freeport which made this town one of the most watered areas in America! Today some interesting aspects about freeport history are that it has been featured multiple times as a model town for television programs like "Home Improvement" and "Cheers". Additionally there are several restaurants located here including Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery & Grill which opened their doors in 1984 making it one of only two U.S.-based breweries open under that brand name today; as well as several convenience stores such as Dunkin' Donuts and KFC which have also been around since before 2000!
In 1812, the Freeport School was founded. It was the first private school in Illinois. The school moved to its present location in 1875. In 1916, the Freeport Chamber of Commerce and Industry was established.
