The Navy has a long and rich history in the city of Frankfort, Illinois. The navy was founded in 1814 by Captain James K. Polk as the United States Naval Observatory. The navy played an important role during the Civil War, supplying soldiers with supplies and ships. The navy also played a major role in the reconstruction of America after the war. In 1919, Congress passed the National Defense Act which created the National Military Establishment to provide for military service by civilians within the United States. This act led to the development of today’s Navy Department. In 1975, President Gerald Ford signed into law Amendments to Title 10 of The United States Code which designated Naval Station Frankfort as one of five naval stations located at locations around the world which would allow American sailors to serve abroad without having their families join them overseas. Today, Naval Station Frankfort serves as homeport for both U.S. Fleet Forces Europe and U.S Pacific Fleet commands responsible for all maritime operations in Asia-Pacific region Naval StationFrankfort has been host to many famous sailors over its years including Adm John McCain (R-AZ) who served as commanding officer from 1987-1993; Vice Admiral David Hunt (U2SB), Commandant of Marines during Desert Storm; Rear Admiral Mark Halsey (USN), Commander Amphibious Force 5/5th Marine Expeditionary Unit; Commodore Rickover (Navy); Rear Admiral Harry Harris (Navy); and Rear Admiral Cecil Thomas(Navy). Frankfort, Illinois is a city in central Illinois and the county seat of Kane County. The population was 32,525 at the 2010 census. It stands on the south bank of the Missouri River, opposite St. Louis. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Frankfort was made by Father Pierre-Jacques Marquette in 1779. As one of three towns founded by the General Court of Illinois on its establishment in 1809–10, it grew rapidly during the 19th century as a center for education and politics; after serving as capital from 1829 to 1837, it became Frankfort proper's largest city with a population over 50,000 by 1860. In 1907, Kansas City supplanted Frankfort as America's second most populous city; although Kane County has since grown much larger than surrounding Franklin County (based on2010 Census figures), Kansas City remains both its primary financial and political center. In recent years, some residents have advocated to merge with St. Joseph or Springfield in order to form a single metropolitan area with a larger population size and more cultural diversity than either town can support on their own behalf alone. The naval service has been a part of the United States for over two centuries, and its history can be traced back to 1775 when Congress passed the Naval Militia Act to provide military protection for harbor ports and coastal towns. The Navy was created on July 4th, 1800 as an arm of the Army and was placed under the Department of War. On September 3rd, 1815, during the Mexican-American War, Commodore James K. Polk ordered Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter to bombard Mexico City with 10 ships of the line and 100 marines. This event is considered by many historians to be one of America’s first successful naval campaigns against a foreign country. In 1821, in response to President James K. Polk’s request for a navy that could protect American interests in Latin America, Congress enacted legislation establishing a permanent navy with 8 ships of war and 240 sailors. The first U.S.-flag warship was launched on February 14th, 1824 when USS Constitution set sail from New York Harbor carrying supplies for General Antonio López de Santa Anna’s forces fighting against Maximilian Victoriano Robles at Vera Cruz. The Navy continued to grow during this time with Commodore Matthew Cushing commanding Ulysses S. Grant’s flagship USS Hannibal in actions off Cuba and Puerto Rico while Rear Admiral John Aiken commanded CSS Sumter at Charleston Harbor during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The Navy also played an important role in World War II with vessels like USS Lexington taking part in operations such as D-Day Normandy or Operation Neptune Beach which landed troops on French beaches before moving inland towards Rome. After World War II ended there were efforts by both Democratic and Republican presidents to reduce or eliminate the navy while some have advocated for its resurrection through various means including increased spending on research and development as well as increasing international cooperation within NATO member statesJSON]]. World War II began on April 6th 1939 when Germany attacked Poland; America responded by launching attacks against German submarines throughout Europe resulting in 9 major engagements totaling over 50 battleships/destroyers along with dozens more submarines… By May 1945 all combat areas had been won except Okinawa where Japan still held strong…. From 1941 until 1944 Japanese submarine activity centered around Pearl Harbour; however after that they only operated inside Japan making very limited contacts outside their homelandJSON]]. Finally after WWII ended hostilities recommenced between Japan & USA over Takeshima Island near Okinawa which led directly to WWIII despite numerous offers from both sides not To nuclear weapons atomic bombingJSON]].
