Fox Lake is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Fox Lake is bordered by Will County to the east and north, Kane County to the west and south, and DuPage County to the southwest. Garland Park was founded in 1859 as a horse farm on what is now Fox Lake Boulevard. The first post office in Fox Lake was established in1862. A sawmill was built on the lake in 1875; it closed down in 1963. The first grocery store opened inFoxLakein1924andthe last store closed downin2004. The Fox River flows through Fox Lake and forms its northwestern border Inadicially used for fishing, playtime (especially for children), or swimming during summer days because of high water levels from nearby reservoirs such as Hinsdale Reservoirs which create an artificial body of water known as "Lake Michigan" on most occasions; however there are several public access points for fishing located throughout town including: Paddlewheel Pier at midway point of town between Bruce Road & I-94 exit 38 & US-41 exit 239 / State Line Road off US-41 exit 239 (northwest side), Fishing pier just outside village limits at mouth of river opposite Bruce Rd., Crystal Beach Marina @ Crystal Beach Rd., Bel Air Marina @ Bel Air Blvd., Sunrise Marina @ Sunrise Dr./IL-90 Exit 129 (@Crystal Beach Rd.), Deerfield Lakes Marina @ Deerfield Dr./IL- 90 Exit 129 (@Belair Blvd.), Bald Eagle Marina @ Bald Eagle Cove/IL-290 Exit 133 (@Belair Blvd.), beautiful crystal clear waters filled with bass, catfish, crappie and other game fish along entire bottom of reservoir! There are also many private boat launch ramps available for those who desire them - please inquire! As with any playground or small community center these types of amenities will eventually disappear if not maintained properly - so make sure you check back often! As mentioned earlier some residents use their property backs yards or frontyards as well as sidewalks/sidewalks running along both sides of street to park their cars inside while they take a walk around town - very nice touch! foxlakeil

Fox Lake is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. The village of Fox Lake was incorporated in 1892 and the town was established in 1903. Fox Lake has a post office with ZIP code 62714. The first settler to arrive in what is now Fox Lake was John Eliot who built a cabin on the east side of the lake in 1829. It wasn't until 1836 that another settler, James Armstrong, arrived and platted what is now known as Armstrong Township. In 1852, John Randall founded Randolph Manufacturing Company which became one of the largest manufacturers of agricultural machinery and other equipment in Illinois. In 1899, he sold his company to George Wirtz who renamed it Wirtz Manufacturing Company Incorporated and also founded Wirtz Park which still operates today as a recreational area. In 1902, Amos Chappell came to Fox Lake from Batavia Township and platted what is now Fox Lake on land that he had bought from Chappell's father-in-law Jesse Baldwin Jr.. Chappell named his new township after himself – FoxLake Township – but it wasn't until 1915 when it became an actual village due to incorporation by charter under then-Mayor Willis Mears. According to Village History Blog: "FoxLake was originally called “Batavia” because this area lay near Batavia (now Rockford) on the southern border of Cook County". However, because so few people lived there during its early years due mostly to lack of transportation or water availability, Batavia Township quickly reverted back to its original name once more for fear that it would get taken over by FoxLake should their village grow larger than theirs did! Consequently, on July 1st 1915 - just two days after Mayor Willis Mears made foxlake an official village - all residents within foxlake were required by law to change their last name into something surname friendly (e.g., Knoppers instead of Rankins). That same year saw many famous residents settle around foxlake including Chicago Bears player George Halas who set up home on High Street; cartoonist Joe McCarthy; auto racer Al Unser; entrepreneur Sam Ziegfeld; pitcher Cy Young ... all men!"
Fox Lake was founded in 1847 by George Washington Fox. The community grew rapidly due to the production of cattle and other livestock. In 1862, the first post office was established in Fox Lake. The population peaked at over 1,500 in 1920, but declined during the Great Depression. Today, there is only a small population of residents living within the boundaries of Fox Lake.
