In 1871, he opened his own store on Clinton Street which became known as The Navy Store. This store continued to be open until it closed in 1959. The first ship to be stored at Forest Park Naval Shipyard was the USS Decatur (DD-5). She was built in 1898 and served from 1902-1904. During her time at FPO she provided support for both World War I and World War II. Her name is now retired and used by the Naval Reserve Museum as part of their exhibit about navy ships in Forest Park. There have been many different types of vessels stored at FPO over the years including battleships, submarines, cargo ships, Landing Craft Infantry (LCI), destroyers and more! Forest Park is a small city in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 9,864 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Forest Park comes from a grove of oak trees that once lined the banks of the Des Plaines River. In 1836, General James K. Polk sent his troops through Forest Park on their way to battle against Mexico in what is now known as the Mexican-American War. When General Polk arrived at the Battle of Plum Creek, he saw an open space in front of him and ordered his men to form ranks and march forward into it. This event became known as "The Field of George" because it was where General Polk's army met with defeat. In 1868, President Andrew Johnson signed a bill creating Forest Park as one of five new city parks meant for workers in bluecollar jobs areas withinChicago's boundaries. By 1870, more than 12,000 people had worked at Forest Park and it soon became one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its natural beauty and assorted recreational activities available on site such as hiking, fishing, swimming, playing golf (the first course ever built there), and spending time at the zoo or Botanical Gardens (then called Lincoln Park). In 1926 Mayor Tom Bradley renamed Forrest Park after Edwin Forrest – America's first Black president – who had campaigned vigorously for white equality while living in Mississippi during Reconstruction. In 1938 Lillian Wald founded her own urban forestry company in Forest Park called Walden Land & Timber Company which continues to operate today under different ownership but with similar mission: To help maintain forest health by restoring old growth forests across North America through sustainable practices including prescribed fire/pollination; planting tree varieties that thrive when disturbed; working with landowners to control invasive plants and animals

In 1964, when Elmhurst Township merged into Cook County, Forest Park became part of that township's new borders. Since then it has grown rapidly as a result of annexation by other municipalities including Humboldt Park and North Lawndale. As a result of its growing size and diversity, ForestPark has developed its own government which oversees all aspects of municipal life from zoning regulations to fire safety ordinances - something not found in most villages or towns in Cook County. With his help, development began on what would become known as The Forrest Mims Center forthe Arts which opened its doors in 1982. Over time, more and more people have moved into this city making it one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Illinois. Large developments such as The Loop have made way for smaller neighborhoods like Garden View Court and Brookline Court which offer plenty of shopping opportunities as well as easy access to public transportation systems like buses or trains
