The first store stop for John Fenton's Marine Gifts was at the home of Mrs. Anna Lowell. over time, other businesses followed suit and Forest Park became known as the "Marine Gift Capital of Illinois." During World War II, Forest Park became an important naval base due to its location near Chicago and its ample harbors for commercial shipping. As a result, marine gifts continued to be popular among military personnel and their families during wartime times. Today, Forrest Park is home to one of the largestmarine gift stores in Illinois with over 150 different types of gifts available onsite. In addition to selling marine gifts, John Fenton also operated a small boat dealership located adjacent to his dock. This dealership was responsible for selling many items related to boating including anchors, moorings, oarsman's kits and more. During his career as a dealer, John Fenton sold approximately 1 million items related to boating throughout Illinois alone! Forest Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 190,713 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Forest Park was founded on November 1, 1871 by Dr. Arthur Lathrop and Dr. George Washington Goodrich as a small town named after the forest near where it stands today. The first settler in Forest Park was John Prentice who purchased land from the government in 1872 for $1 per acre. In 1876, architect Daniel Burnham designed what is now known as "Old Town". He chose to use Georgian architecture which he thought would be popular with American tourists visiting Europe at that time. Burnham's design included many beautiful houses and streets that still exist today including his main house on State Street (now Pulaski Road). Unfortunately few Americans visited Germany during those years soBurnham's design didn't catch on and the town quickly reverted back to its original name of Forest Park. During World War II much of Forest Park was destroyed by bombing raids from the U-2 planes flown by America's top secret air force in order to find German weapons plants hidden underground within our cities and towns. Much of Old Town still remains bomb damage however most of Burnham's lovely architecture has been restored or replaced including his famous 9 story Gothic Revival style hotel called "The Lodge" which now sits inside a new indoor/outdoor park called "The Grove". In 1955 the City Council decided that all municipal buildings within 500 feet (150 m) of any school should be converted into homes; this gave rise to what is now known as "City Center." Many great architects were brought in to design new community centers such as Jay Leno's building which opened in 1998 aboveground and also includes an observation deck for visitors! Today there are several large shopping malls located just outside of downtown with many restaurants and bars located inside these malls as well making it one big entertainment district!

The next year, an experimental garden was created on Clybourn Street with a small pond and five trees. In 1907, the first park opened to the public in Forest Park when President William McKinley dedicated it as "A Place for People and Nature". With its large green space and well-maintained roads and paths, Forest Park soon became one of Chicago's most popular recreation areas. In 1916, Mayor John Hynes renamed the park after Forrest Gump because he believed that everyone who saw Forrest would want to visit it again. At first glance, Forrest might not seem like something that would be enjoyed by all people - he is known for being quite rough around the edges (according to some stories). However, over time people have come to appreciate his story more and more. Today Forrest Gump remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in Forest Park - whether you're there just for a day or longer! One unique feature of Forest Park is that it has two distinct neighborhoods: Elmhurst – which includes many beautiful old homes from early 20th century America – and Lawndale – home of many high-end retailers such as Macy's Mosaic department store along with several other legacy shopping mall properties including Sears & Roebuck & Co., JCPenney & Co., Kmart Supercenter etc.. both areas are zoned separately but share resources (e.g., playgrounds) and police services; this allows for more variety in retail options without compromising community spirit or trust between residents/ businesses/etc...Two recent projects underway within Elmhurst include renovations/expansion of The School at Elmhurst which houses pre-K thru 8th grade students w/ special needs; also under construction is a new elementary school building which will house grades 9-12 students alongside full gymnasium / music room / tennis court facility called 'The Woodlands'

In 1851, the Illinois Legislature created a park in Forest Park to commemorate the state'smaple syrup production. The first tree planting took place in Forest Park in 1875. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson declared that Forest Park would be an "open space for all Americans." In 1949, the United States Supreme Court upheld this policy when it ruled that Forest Park was part of Chicago's city limits. Today, Forest Park is one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations with over 150 miles of hiking trails and over 100 restaurants and cafes available within its boundaries.
