The National Guard of Fairview Heights, Illinois was organized on July 1, 1919. The first unit to be organized in the town was the 6th Regiment of Infantry. On November 3, 1920, the 7th Regiment of Infantry was organized and given its own battalion. The 8th Regiment of Infantry also became a brigade-sized unit on November 2, 1922. On October 5, 1923 the 9th Regiment of Infantry was activated and given its own battalion. In 1924 both brigades were combined into a divisional sized unit and were redesignated as the 9th Brigade National Guard of Fairview Heights. In 1933 both divisionsal sized units were disbanded and all Guardsmen were placed under control of the Illinois Defense Agency as part of that agency's reorganization which occurred during World War II. However, when that war ended most Guardsmen returned to their original divisions or brigades once again on September 15, 1945 when state management reverted back to the United States Army Corps of Engineers with jurisdiction over national guard troops within that corps limits. It is interesting to note that when this organization changed hands it retained many insignia from previous organizations such as badges and buttons made from military uniforms worn by members in other services who had served in those predecessor units during their time being part of national guard forces within their states respective borders before they too rejoined US armed forces after World War I through various Reorganization Plans introduced by General Douglas MacArthur following Japanese Occupationof Japan in 1941 which led eventually to World War II for America's allies while Japan continued her naval blockade against America's commercial shipping).

Fairview Heights is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Fairview Heights is located on the east side of Chicago. The first settler in what would become Fairview Heights was Eli Whitney Jr., who arrived in 1837 from Connecticut. After his death, his son Eli Whitney III took over and developed much of the land that makes up today's Fairview Heights. In 1892, John Fenton bought some of what is now Fairview Heights from Eli Whitney III and began to build a large estate known as "Fenton Manor". The estate became one of Illinois' most prestigious addresses and remains so to this day. The first school in Fairview Heights was built in 1867 by Mrs. Julia Waugh as an academy for girls. A new school building was constructed on West Street in 1907 and renamed Eisenhower Elementary School after then-President Dwight D Eisenhower. In 1925, when the city of Chicago annexed adjacent areas into its municipal boundaries, FairVIEW HEIGHTS were essentially cut off from downtownChicago by their annexation boundary line! This created many challenges for residents such asPete Poston (founder and first Mayor of Park Ridge) who lobbied hard to have their neighborhood rejoined with downtownChicago In 1970, following decades of advocacy by community groups such as the South Side Alliance for Educational Opportunity (SSAEO),[1] Mayor Richard Miech announced plans to build a new high school within walking distance of Eisenhower Elementary School which opened its doors on August 29th 1974.[2] With enrollment growth exceeding expectations,[3][4]the original Eisenhower High School capacity was increased to 1,500 students but it soon became apparent that additional space could not be accommodated within the existing buildings; consequently an expansion project costing $27 million was undertaken between 1978-1981 which increased the original elementary/middle schools’ student populations back to 2-, 3-, 4-and 5-story buildings; creating one continuous campus [5][6]. Today’s Eisenhower Middle School offers upwards of 350 courses including Advanced Placement Programs opportunities for students from throughout Cook County . The newest addition – Lake View Junior High –opened its doors September 8th 2009 with about 350 students grades 7 through 12 providing access to rigorous academic programs offered by Northwestern University’s Feinberg Schools Today'sFairVIEWHEIGHTS has evolved significantly since its incorporation into the City & Township Of Chicago on January 1st 1999 !!!
From the Revolutionary War to the present, the national guard has been a vital part of American society. From its early days as a militia force to its role in both World Wars I and II, the national guard has played an important role in American history. In recent years, however, the military-industrial complex and other forms of privatization have placed an increasingly heavy reliance on the National Guard for support. This article looks at how national guard gift history has evolved over time and examines some of the challenges facing members of the military-industrial complex who seek to use gifts from members of the national guard to further their own interests. The origins ofthe modern national guard can be found in 1775 when colonial militias were formed as a response to Boston's attack on Lexington and Concord (Massachusetts). The colonial militias performed similar duties as later state militias but were not subject to civilian control. As tensions increased between Patriots and Loyalists during the Revolution, committees were formed to organize provincial militaries into brigades under commandof Major General David Greene. These brigades served as auxiliaries unto Massachusetts forces fighting against British troops in New York and Rhode Island. In 1802, Congress created a National Guards Bureau which was responsible for organizing state militias into regiments or battalionsized units under brigade command. Militia units served two years before being mustered out and became permanently inactive until called back into service by order of Congress following a war with Mexico. At this point, there was no permanent military structure equivalent to that envisioned by Congress; instead each regiment consisted of select companies drawn from various militia battalions summoned up through voluntary enlistment or recall laws passed by individual legislatures (see 1st Regiment Infantry Maryland Volunteers: Formation and Organization 1802-1815)). During Reconstruction after World War II several thousand black soldiers serving in whiteU States military forces volunteered their services as part of organized black armies known collectively as “National Guards” (see Black Soldiers Who Served In The National Guard During The 1950s). However these armies never materialized because political leadership within U States institutions opposed any involvement by blacks outside institutional channels suchas schools, business or government ( see African Americans Who Served In The National Guard Since World War II ). Fairview Heights is a small community located in the far northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 3,951 at the 2010 census. It lies adjacent to Aurora and Elgin County, and is bordered by the village of Deerfield on the south, Mount Prospect on the west, Westinghouse Electric Corporation's Fairview Park on the north, and Arlington Heights to the east. The first settlers arrived in 1836 and named their town after Fairmount Abbey in Wales. In 1846 it became a post office under name Deerfield because of its location near that village's center. A sawmill started up around this time and soon began producing logs for use in manufacturing homes and other items in nearby Aurora. When Pierce Elevator Company built an elevator line from downtown Chicago to Deerfield in 1905, they required logs from Fairview Heights for shipment up to Aurora. At that point, most of what is now Fairview Heights was developed as part of Aurora Township along with parts of Elk Grove Village and Lombard Mills. Aurora Cemetery opened in 1886 as one of many new cemeteries established within Cook County during that period when cemetery laws were changed following agitation by reformers such as Edwin Gentry who believed that religious institutions should be free from government control. The original plot measured only . That same year saw also construction begin on what would become known as Maplewood Avenue which ran concurrently between Deerfield Road (now Elmhurst Avenue) just east of town center and State Street (now Irving Park Road). Maplewood Avenue resulted in annexation byFairview Heights when it merged with neighboring townships effective April 1st 1906 In 1911 there was another major development at Town Hall when Harold Wessels purchased land adjoiningpresent-day Elmhurst Drive (now State Street) east of Main Street which he would eventually build into what is now Wessels Place On November 25th 1912 voters approved a measure providing for township trustees to buy lands surrounding present-day Greenwood Lake if it proved necessary or desirable to improve water drainage facilities Thereafter trustees began purchasing parcels bordering Greenwood Lake until all but two were acquired before 1935 This parcel acquisition formed today's eastern edge of FairVIEW HEIGHTS
