FairVIEW HEIGHTS was founded on December 26th, 1871 by John and Catharine FairVIEW. It has since grown to become a thriving community with over 7,000 residents! The history of Fairview Heights can be traced back to 1871 when two men named John and Catharine FairVIEW purchased 1/2 acre of land near present day 125th Street and Elm Avenue in what is now known as Fairview Heights. At the time it was one of the most rural areas in McLean County. The couple soon realized that they had found an ideal location for their new community because it had many trees and rolling hills to offer its citizens plenty of privacy and peace of mind while living within easy reach of both work and home. John died in 1893 but his wife continued to live in her own home until her death in 1951. QUEEN CATHARINE'S DAY (December 26th) was first celebrated in Fairview Heights on this date in 1887 by Miss Katharine Goodspeed who made an annual gift of $100 to the local poor children’s fund which helped provide food for many families during that difficult year. As late as 1960, Mrs. Alice Whetstone still contributed monthly to this fund - more than 50 years after she first set eyes on it! In 1961, Mr. Raynor Weisburger donated 2 acres adjacent to his house at 125th Street & Elm Avenue which would become known as "The Weisburger Patch". This property would be used for future schools and parks within thecommunity itself as well as becoming home to several businesses such as Pohl’s Supermarket & Hardware Store; George Foreman Grill; Radio Shack; First United Methodist Church (& rectory); Green Acres nursery; etc.. Today's structure on that site includes a elementary school (K-8), library (9-12), sportsplex (13-18), Post Office (1905-present), water tower & restrooms (1925-present), all atop a hillock that provides perfect viewing conditions for games played at The WEISBURGER Patch! The recent growth ofFairview Heights has been nothing short of remarkable! In 2000 alone,the population grew by more than 20%. From 2001 through 2010 alone, the population totaled 6,816 residents – making it one of McLean County’s fastest growing communities! And even though 2016 marked yet another consecutive year with declining populations (-1% due mainly to heavy migration from other parts of Illinois – see below)), FairVIEW HEIGHTS continues its rapid growth trend by having already increased its population again by 3% from 2017 through 2019!!!

He also developed Fairview Heights Golf Course and Fairview Oaks Cemetery into one of Chicagos most prestigious neighborhoods In 1957, Fairview Heights became home to Northwestern Universitys McCormick School of Engineering & Science along with its associated buildings including the old engineering college building (now known as Sterling Hall) which had been used as an administrative office for Northwestern since 1892 . In 1992 Northwestern merged withChicago State University to form Northwestern University . In 2006 McCormick School moved to its current location on West Moreland Avenue in Englewood
