The Fairview Heights, Illinois Army Garrison was activated in 1917. The garrison served throughout World War I and the Korean War. In 1951, the army moved to Springfield, Illinois and in 1998 it relocated to Chicagoland. Today, the Fairview Heights Garrison is a part of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point's history museum. The Fairview Heights Garrison was first established in 1917 as an agricultural unit under the command of Captain William Ellington. The unit served as an infantry brigade during World War I and later became a cavalry regiment under Colonel John Matson Jr.. During World War II, the garrison operated as a rifle battalion under General George Custer's command before becoming an artillery battalion under Major-General Harry Hines in 1945. After the war, the garrison returned to agriculture until 1951 when it moved to Springfield where it currently resides. In 1951, Fairview Heights Garrison was mobilized for Operation Green Arrow which led to its role within Ulysses S Grant's military campaign against Japan. The garrison participated in battle at Kawasaki and Tokyo with distinction before being redeployed to Fort Worth Texas for duty during America's participation in the Korean War. Fairview Heights is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,819 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area and one of its five original cities. Fairview Heights is located on the north side of Chicago, just west of downtown. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fairview Heights were French fur traders in 1679. Father Jacques Marquette and his party explored the Michigan River Valley before reaching Lake Michigan in 1688. In 1770, John George White founded a trading post called Fort Dearborn on the present site of Lombard Street and West Adams Avenue. The first European settlers in what is now Fairview Heights were Irish Catholics who arrived from Ireland around 1810-1812. They named their neighborhood after Mountfair (now North Side) which they saw as an ideal location for a new town because it had good soil, fresh water resources and easy access to transportation and trade routes. In 1854, while construction was under way on Northwestern Railway tracks running through Lombard Street between State Road 54th/Goodrich Avenue and Ravenswood Place east of central business district (CBD), local residents raised enough awareness to stop construction by taking to the streets with pickets wearing white flags to protest proposed rail lines that would have destroyed their neighbourhoods. Construction continued until October 9 when all rails were cut by railway workers during a renovation project; this event marked only one occasion when public protests against railways led to their implementation into law in Illinois). On October 10th 1840 – exactly 125 years ago – Joseph Hennessey founded Hennepin Brewery on what are now Washington Boulevard between Pulaski Rd./Wabash Ave./Norman Drive/Addison Rd., becoming America's third brewery after Boston's Fosters & Higgins Brewery (opened December 1st 1825) and New Orleans' Perrier Bros.(October 3rd 1830). As late as 1915 there were only 6 breweries left operating nationally out of over 100 then! Today there are several hundred small brewers throughout the U.S.. Municipal buildings included: 1) City Hall 2) Municipal Courthouse 3) Post Office Building 4) fire station #1 5) fire station #2 6) Public Library Annexe - built 1888-89 by architects James Gamble & Jno Mappelbach (now part of University Of Chicago Library System ). opened November 1893 with donated books from Mrs Samuel Morse . later moved inside newly constructed library building across South Wacker Drive from fairgrounds . burned down in 1951 due to arson . current library building originally designed by architect Edward Bennett Wilson but burned downSeptember 15th 1954

In 1969, General Westmoreland made a speech at Fort Benning in Georgia announcing that all American troops would be sent home within two years if “successful” negotiations were not successful by then. Fairview Heights is a village in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 1,531 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Kankakee, IL-MO-KS metropolitan area. The Village of Fairview Heights was organized on March 17, 1873 with a population of 371. The first settler in what would become Fairview Heights was John Griggs who arrived in 1837 and named his tract "Griggs's Prairie." He did not live to see his land developed into what it now contains. A few years later, Amos Hixon settled on the same plot of land and renamed it "Hixon's Prairie." In 1855, Elijah Prentice drove out a band of Indians led by Chief White Cloud and established himself at what is now called Prenticeville. By 1860, there were 86 residents living in Fairview Heights. In 1871, the America First Party nominated James Buchanan for President on a platform that included repealing the 1865 Morrill Act which had subsidized railway construction in Illinois; this caused many farmers to switch to Republicanism andFairview Heights became one of their strongholds. On November 3rd 1870 when General Order No. 9was published ordering all troops within three miles (5 km)of any major city be withdrawn from that area due to insecurity over Hyannis Port--the port town being controlled by Massachusetts Patriots--Fairview Heights' men responded with an oratorical address entitled “An Address To The Citizens OffairVIEW HEIGHTSVillage”readied for delivery before the Town Hall on December 8th 1870 by Reverend Samuel Morse who also served as its first Mayor
