Evergreen Park, IL is home to the Chicago Air National Guard’s 313th Airlift Wing. The wing was activated on July 1, 1944, and has been providing airlift services for the city of Chicago ever since. In addition to its military activity, Evergreen Park also hosts a number of community events and fundraisers that benefit the wing. One such event happened on Memorial Day in 1991. A group ofEvergreen Park residents gathered around a small firework display in honor of the Illinois Air National Guard’s 310th Airlift Squadron which had transported troops and supplies to Afghanistan during Operation Neptune’s Spear. The gift history of this event dates back to 1945 when members of the Illinois Air National Guard donated munitions and other supplies to the RAF Bomber Command in Europe in support ofOperation Overlord. Today, Illini ANG members continue their help by donating equipment and training materials to local law enforcement agencies throughout Cook County. This generosity has resulted in many donations being given away over time, including an expended John Deere tractor from 1992 that was gifted to the Chicago Police Department; a used Jeep Wrangler from 2009 that was given to village youth groups; and a new 100-foot long hangar for use by the Illini ANG at Midway Airport that was donated by Boeing CommercialAirplanes corp in 2013. Throughout its history as an armada dedicated to helping others, theChicago Air National Guard's 313rd Airlift Wing has received numerous awards and commendations from both within our own community as well as abroad. These accolades include: • Unit Citation – “Outstanding Unit Award” (UAF) earned for excellence in airlift operations during World War II; • Aerospace Achievement Medal (AAM) – awarded posthumously for heroism while maintaining combat airspace near Baghdad on October 26, 2003 while conducting airstrikes against Iraq; • Presidential Unit Citation – presented May 20th, 2017 recognizing units' participation with distinction during Operation Neptune's Spear (Afghanistan); • Congressional Gold Medal - presented June 6th, 2018 recognizing service rendered byIllinois ANG members during Operation Neptune's Spear (Afghanistan).

Evergreen Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,521 at the 2010 census. It is adjacent to Chicago and is one of the twelve cities in the Chicago metropolitan area. The name comes from Evergreen Forest outside ofChicago, which was once part of the Township of Arlington. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Evergreen Park on October 10, 1837 by Captain James K. Polk and his party of five men as part of a military expedition exploring the north side of Lake Michigan. They named their new settlement after Drury Lane in London where they had been staying while searching for land west of the Mississippi River. When Illinois became a state in 1838, Arlington Township was transferred to Cook County and Evergreen Park became a part of it. The city's first Mayor was John Prentice (1854-1859). He served under two different Governors before being elected Mayor again in 1860 and 1862 with 64 percent majorities both times. He remains Evergreen Park's longest-serving mayor to this day; he has also served as City Councilmember since 1965 and as its president since 2003. One notable project that Prentice spearheaded during his time as Mayor was the construction of Soldier Field (now Guaranteed Rate Field), which hosted many important sports events throughout its history including The Super Bowl (1943), The World Series (1973), The Olympics (2008), and The Miss Universe Pageant (2009). In 1969, Prentice also successfully lobbied for passage of legislation creating North Side Park – later renamed North Side Armory District – within the limits currently comprising Evergreen Park proper starting at Wicker Ave./Lake Shore Drive eastward toFields Rd./Wacker Ave., thence northerly along Fields Rd./Wacker Ave., westerly along Wicker Ave., then meridional along Wicker Ave., terminating at Armour Rd./Cook Stadium Blvd.. Today’s boundaries form much more recent additions to evergreen park: south side Lucas Museum/Exhibit Hall; east side Northwestern Insurance Arena/NHL Iceplex; west side Halsted St./northwest corner Arnie Ziegler Blvd.; northwest corner Garfield Place/southwest corner Ontario St.; southwest corner Narragansett Bayou
The history of the United States Air Force deploy gift history is a complex and long one. The USAF was founded on Feb. 1, 1947 by President Harry S. Truman with the goal of providing air power for America’s security. The USAF grew to become one of the world’s largest militaries, with over 190,000 active duty members and an additional 134,000 civilians who support the military through their work at home or abroad. The USAF has been deployed in many different roles throughout its history. Its primary mission has been to provide air power for American interests around the world, but it also conducts other missions such as Operation Neptune Spear which bombed Libya in 2011. The USAF also operates numerous aircraft types including bombers, fighter jets and helicopters. In addition to its deployment history, the USAF has also undergone several changes throughout its existence including becoming a all-volunteer force in 1959 and being restructured into three branches in 1998. Air Force deploy gift history can be traced back to World War II when America needed logistical support for its growing war effort. America had just entered World War II and was struggling to find enough planes and troops to fight on two fronts against Nazi Germany and Japan simultaneously. To make matters worse, resources were scarce due to World War I which had depleted Europe’s resources while leaving America reeling financially. This made it difficult for America to send soldiers overseas without having them fall sick or starve first (aka “the Great Gatsby Syndrome”). To solve this problem, President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 13571 on Jan 30th, 1942 that allowed American companies like Boeing Airlines and Schenectady Copper Mines to donate planes and personnel for use by theAAF during World War II (later renamed as the USAAF). This order allowed American companies like Boeing Airlines and Schenectady Copper Mines not only to give their products away but also receive government subsidies so they could continue production even while they were being used by the military (this was later called “dual use”). These donations continued until 1945 when Roosevelt ordered that all planes should be returned home within 10 months because he wanted Americans back HOME! He also instituted regulations banning any new airplanes from being built until after WWII had ended (aka “the Golden Rule”). This restriction helped ensure that American manufacturers would not cave under wartime pressure again and produce cheap plane designs that would be unavailable during peacetime! It is interesting to note that these restrictions stillapply today as certain airplane families are still banned from constructing new models! After WWII ended there were several attempts by Congresses both Republican & Democratic administrations to create a permanent body tasked with providing aerial transportation across country within 100 miles of Washington D C . However no action was taken until 1949 when Senator Curtis LeMay created Task Forces 1-6 which proposed creating an Aeronautical Division within Headquarters USAF with jurisdiction over all aspects of aviation research & development! On July 15th 1950 LtGen Oliver North became director general of Tactical Air Command after successfully running for office promising never Again let our enemies control our skies! On July 16th 1950 General George Patton became Commander Of Allied Air Forces Europe after successful running for office promising never Again let our allies control our skies! By 1953 Task Forces 9-12 had been disbanded & LtGen Curtis LeMay became Director Generals Plans Directorate at HQUSAF!!!!!!!!!!!
