One of the earliest deployments of the Navy in Evanston was on December 8, 1941 when USS Constitution sailed from Quincy, Massachusetts with gifts for the sailors stationed at Rock Island Arsenal. A total of 38 gifts were sent - thirteen military items and twenty-six civilian items. These gift shipments are significant because they show that naval officers and their families were readiness to protect America's shores during World War II. During World War II, there were many different types of Gifts that could be sent to sailors stationed in Evanston. Some examples include: books, tools, clothing, food, cigarettes, etc... It is interesting to note that many different people contributed to this deployment including parents or grandparents who had sons or daughters serving in the Armed Forces; friends or family members who had relatives serve; businesses or organizations who donated goods or services; etc... Many people within our community participated in this deployment by sending boxes full of supplies or making donations through drives such as " send us your surplus" or "novelties for troops" . After World War II ended there was an increase in deployments due to conflicts such as Korea and Vietnam. From 1951-1975 there were a total of twenty-four Deployments with gifts totaling 4686 items! This number represents an increase over prior deployments because it shows how important it was for Sailors not only domestically but also overseas to have equipment and supplies ready whenever needed! This success led to more recent deployments which started in 1978 with Gifts totaling 10294 items! This number again demonstrates how important it is for Sailors not only domestically but also overseas to have equipment and supplies ready whenever needed!

Evanston is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 85,745 at the 2010 census, making Evanston the second most populous city in Illinois after Chicago. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area, which has a population of 2 million people. Evanston is located on the West Side of Chicago, bordered by Cook County to the north and east, Lake Michigan to the west and south, and Racine County to the southeast. Evanston was founded as a small village by American Indians in 1837 near what is now Northwestern University. It became an independent municipality in 1903 and was reincorporated as a town in 1960. At its peak during World War II it had a population of over 100,000 people; however, this number decreased following the war and today it has around 60,000 residents. The city's economy depends heavily on research and development for businesses such as Motorola Solutions Inc., IBM Watson Research Center LLC., Ford Motor Company (F), KPMG LLP., Rent-A-Car Services USA LLC., Boeing Co., Starbucks Coffee Corporation (SBUX) - one of America's largest coffee companies - Apple Inc.'s Cupertino campus - Wrigleyville Elementary School District No 1 (WELS1), Northwestern University Feinberg School of Business & Management - one of Chicagos top business schools -and many other smaller businesses. The first permanent settler in Evanston was Nicholas Roemer who arrived from Holland with his family in 1837. He helped to found what is now Northwestern University with then President John Hargrave; Roemer also served as town clerk for Evanston from 1837 until he resigned due to ill health in 1840). In 1860 Amos Kendall organized 13 men from various villages near downtown Chicago into a "town meeting" to seek authority from the government over their own affairs; they adopted a Constitution that same year which defined their new town as "Evanston". The first post office opened at 7 PM on November 12th, 1859; it was known as "Nicholas Roemer Post Office". On October 16th 1860 David Ruggles appointed George Stephenson Assistant Postmaster General; Stephenson designed and built the first railroad line through Evanston – Western Union Telegraph Line – between Chicago IL&NW Railroad Station and Wright Street station which opened on November 15th 1861! In 1903 when Evanston became an independent municipality it annexed much neighboring territory including parts of Ridgefield Township (northwest side), Wheaton Heights (southwest side), Northbrook Village (east side) and Lawndale Village (northwest side). These annexations made up what are now Elmwood Park neighborhood on the southwest edge of Evanston along State Road 41Rt.; Lombard Place Neighborhood on behalf thereof including those parts lying northwest corner SRS Rd bridge over Sangamon River just before US Highway 17 Bridge across Sangamon River opposite Race Track Drive; Allendale Manor adjoining that part lying northeast corner Cottage Grove Blvd/Edgewater Dr/Highland Ave intersection just before I-294 interchange etc.) Ida B Wells House: Mrs Ida B Wells lived at this house from 1905 until her death on February 25th 1958 aged 92 years old’ Ida B Wells Museum: This museum houses artifacts related to Mrs Ida B Wells life including items she collected during her lifetime such as dolls she made herself or clothes she wore while living here

The navy also deployed gifts during World War II: USS California (CA-38) was struck by Japanese torpedoes while on patrol off Guam; USS Indianapolis (IN-65) was sunk by German U-boats; USS Missouri (MO-10) was damaged by fire from Japanese dive bombers; and USS Enterprise (CVN 64) became the first U.S.-flag ship ever lost at sea during World War II when her aircraft carrier deck fell victim to flames while on operations off Midway Island

Evanston, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,822 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Chicago after Chicago and Los Angeles. Evanston was founded on October 24, 1892 by John W. Morton and his brother Edward Leland Morton as a small town on the northwest side of Chicago. The name "Evanston" originated from two possible sources: one source said that it was given to Evanston by General George Armstrong Custer for having fought alongside him during the American Civil War; another source said that it was derived from an obsolete French word meaning "a field belonging to an estate." The first settlers in Evanston were Methodists who built their first houses on Green Street in 1892. A year later, the Methodist bishop of Illinois formed a church there and named it Zion Baptist Church after his see's location near Zion Chapel located in what is now West Side (now Rogers Park). In 1896, Emanuel Swedenborg donated land to build Northwestern University which became one of America's largest universities with over 30 campuses across the United States and Canada. When Northwestern opened its doors for business in 1897, students and employees numbered 350 people living in 49 buildings on Glidden Street between State and Dearborn Streets near Ground Zero of World Trade Center towers 1-3 (the site today known as Northwestern University Medical School). By 1915, when Northwestern had grown large enough to move into its own new building on State Avenue just north of downtown Evanstonians had turned out in droves to hear Dr. James Hutton speak about economic development at Lincoln Hall on Gage Avenue adjacent to what is now McCormick Place dinner theater complex; Over 1 thousand people attended each speech! In 1922–23 Staggs College moved from Geneva Township (northwest suburban) into what is now North Park Blocks east of Lake Michigan Drive south of Cicero Road serving students grades 9-12 until 1946 when Grades K-6 were added bringing enrollment up to 2282 students including 1500 children who lived on campus! This was also when Douglas Aircraft Company moved from Elmhurst Manor west of Cicero Road onto Griggs Road just east of Ivar Munch Boulevard making Douglas Air Lines one of North America's largest airlines! In order for Griggs Road between Cicero Rd./Ivar Munch Blvd./Lake Michigan Dr.–Douglas Airport Blvd.(northwest boundary) & Southaven Ave.—east boundary (& concurrent use with Northwest Expressway), surface streets needed reclassification as streets within park boundaries following designation by Cook County Board Of Elections as partorized map dated January 17th 1953 . street numbers within limits follow original listing .
