In 1893, Mayor John Hynes granted a license to George Steckendorff to make and sell rifles and shotguns at his City Hall storefront – marking the beginning of what is now known as Steckendorff Gun Gallery & Museum (SGGM). SGGM quickly became one of Chicago’s leading firearm dealers, serving customers from all corners of the city including The Loop business district to Englewood Heights and Hyde Park…and beyond! SGGM continued to be an important part ofChicago’sgun culture well into into today’s era; selling new weaponry along with antique automatics and classic cannons from aroundthe world! SGGM closed its doors for good in 1984 but not before leaving behind an amazing trove of guns- some still on display today inside our building!
