Elmwood Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,788 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
The town was organized in 1855 and named for Elmwood Hill, a stand of white poplars located near the present-day town line.
In 1870, Elmwood Park became one of six towns within the new city of Chicago; it remained an annexed municipality until its annexation by Cook County in 1898. In 1957, Elmwood Park become a separate municipality again when it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities of Winnetka and Lombard to form what is now known as Elmwood Park Township.
Prior to its incorporation as a township, Elmwood Park had no schools; however, school district No. 1 opened in 1923 and closed in 1974 due to budget cuts by then-Mayor Richard M. Daley's administration). In 1991, following approval from the state board of education, Elk Wood High School opened on Maple Grove Road in nearby Lombard..
After years of being without any public transportation options (the only bus stop serving the township was on State Street), residents voted to ask for help from Romeoville Township with getting bus service into their community; this request was granted and buses began running through Elk Wood on November 5th 2009. On May 7th 2010 voters approved passage of a $10 million bond referendum that would fund infrastructure improvements such as expanding roadways inside and outside of the township including new trails and sidewalks. The bond referendum passed with 56% support.

Elmwood Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Elmwood Park is located on the edge of the city of Chicago and it is bordered by Willard to the south, Westchester to the east, South Shore Drive to the north, and Douglas Avenue to the west. The first settler in what would become Elmwood Park was Daniel Boone in 1814. He established a farm called "Boone's Camp" about two miles northeast of today's Elmwood Park on what are now Cook County Road 122 and State Route 44. In 1846, John Hickey settled near present-day Elmwood Park and laid out a township which would be named for him when he died in 1853. In 1857, George Stephenson donated land east of today's road that became Elmwood Park Township; this parcel extended from what are now State Route 44 (now Douglas Avenue) north until its intersection with present-day Rogers Road. On November 3rd, 1907 – just over one hundred years after Daniel Boone had founded Elmwood Park – an incorporation meeting was held at First National Bank in Elk Grove Village to set up a village government for all parcels within City limits which were not yet included within Cook County or municipalities such as Evanston or Lakeview Heights. This organization would come to be known as The village of Elk Grove Village and would serve as local government for much of downtown Chicago until it was disbanded in 1973 following Urban Renewal efforts throughout Chicagoland
