The first coffee shop in Elk Grove was established in 1892. The shop was called the Coffee House and served iced coffee, hot coffee, and tea. In 1898, the business moved to its current location on South Market Street. The Coffee House closed its doors in 1957 but reopened as a gas station in 1978. In 1984, the restaurant closed again but reopened as a coffee house in 1990. In 2000, the restaurant closed for good but reopened as an Italian bakery/coffee house in 2006.
Elk Grove is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Metropolitan Statistical Area. Elk Grove is named after the elk that once roamed the area. It was incorporated on April 14, 1868. The first residents of Elk Grove were those who had recently come to the area from Decatur Township in southern Illinois. They started clear-cutting forests and farming what is now Elk Grove with their small private farmsteads until about 1875 when they Joined with other farmers in a large open field platting for what would become Elk Grove Township. In 1887, John Davenport donated land to form Elmhurst Park which includes most of present day Elmwood Avenue and much of today's Town Center Drive. On this donation was founded one of Chicago's first public schools - Elmhurst School (now Roosevelt High School). The first school building, a log cabin built by John Davenport himself and his sons William and George, opened on October 7th, 1888. The township grew rapidly due to agricultural production typical of early America; logging began soon afterwards as oak trees became valuable lumber resources in this region due to their tough texture and light coloration. By 1912 there were over 150 citizens living in Elkhorn Heights & adjoining sections including numerous farms & outbuildings located along I-90 just east of town line

Elk Grove is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,662 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Town of Elk Grove was organized on February 14, 1853, by act of the State legislature. The town was named for General John Blythe who fought in the American Revolution and died at Valley Forge as a brigadier general. General George Armstrong Custer also fought in the War of 1812 and is buried there in Elmwood Cemetery. Elk Grove has a rich history dating back to its early days as an agricultural community. In 1836, Augustus Eaton founded Eaton's Mills here and began to produce flour, sugar beets and other crops. He also built a sawmill and gristmill that still operate today. In 1865, when Springfield became an independent city, Elk Grove joined it and remained one of its most important residents until 1959 when it incorporated as a village under the name "Elk Grove Village." After years of growth and development within its limits, Elk GroveVillage officially changed its name to "ElkGrove" on October 1st 1997 becoming one of only two villages in Cook County that have this designation from their incorporation date onward (the other being Highland Park). The Elk Grove area was first settled in the late 1800s by veterans of the American Civil War. The land that now makes up Elk Grove was bought from the Native Americans in 1853 and given to John D. Rockefeller for his oil drilling operations in Pennsylvania. In 1902, Rockefeller donated land to the city of Chicago for a public park called Midway Gardens. The park became a playground for families and also served as a research center for Ernst Moritz Freud, one of the founders of psychoanalysis.
