With the Korean War starting in 1950 and increased aerial activity resulting from that conflict; it was necessary for both USAF and ground forces commanders to have a common language to communicate airspace restrictions and mission requirements regarding fighters present or departing missions at any given time. This led to formation of Tactical Air Command (TAC) on April 1, 1951 under General Curtis LeMay who provided unified commands for all USAAF assets involved in strategic bombing operations during that conflict against North Korea as well as Taiwan which had become an open front in this conflict despite Chinese claims otherwise. After years of planning and development; ADC initiated Project Blue Jay which would see McDonnell Douglas C-47 Skytrain flying into Kunsan AFB South Korea with Military Assistance Unit (MAG) troops providing support while KC-135 Stratotankers transported goods and people back home throughout that country following hostilities ceased on July 26th 1953. Many military hardware items gifted by countries during times such as these are still stored by USAF museums today including: Northrop Grumman F5A/E Intruder Aircraft flown by EAGLE pilots between 1951 - 1975; Lockheed Martin F-2C Tigerhawk aircraft donated by Japan in 1954; Republic F3F Bearcat fighter planes donated by France in 1956; Boeing 707 passenger planes donated by USAire Airlines between 1958 - 1959; McDonnell Douglas DC-9 jetliners donated by Canada between 1961 - 1963). Some notable examples include: Douglas C-46 Commando transferred from army use to USAF after being operated out of Griffen AFB California during 1945 – 1946; Republic F4 Phantom IIIs operated from Beale AFB California during 1952 – 1957; Northrop Grumman Neptune missile launches from Vandenberg AFB California 1955 – 1958 Additionally numerous helicopters such as Bell AH1 Cobra helicopter gifts acquired through donations or contributions from individuals or businesses have been retained within USAF organizations over time including Sikorsky HS6U Hueys donated by Raytheon Helicopter Co.; Hughes HCS748 tiltrotorcopters gifted courtesy US Marine Corps;; Hughes HH9Y Heliocopters purchased outright from UHoover Helicopter Co.; etc.).

The post office was established in 1875 and served the community until it closed in 1964. In 1916, Edwin Caulfield founded what is now Chicago's largest clothing manufacturing company, Gilden Mills. He died in 1966 and his son became president and CEO of Gilden Mills before his death in 1998. In 2006-2007, Gilden Mills donated $10 million to Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Business in memory of Mr. Caulfield's daughter Carolyne Mellon Filburne (1912-2006). The gift helped students at Feinberg obtain equipment needed for their new business program called "Gilden Entrepreneurship & Leadership" which started up at Northwestern University in 2007 as part of the larger "Gilden Learning" initiative funded by Gilden Mills donations

By 1971, Edwardsville had shrunk to its original size with only 50 businesses and 300 residents. However, since then, Edwardsville has experienced rapid growth with over 500 businesses and 2,000 residents today.
