Military gift history in East Peoria, Illinois dates back to the early 1870s when General George Logan founded the First Regiment of Artillery. The regiment was later renamed the Third Regiment and served in the Union Army during the Civil War. During World War I, the Third Regiment was mobilized and fought in Europe. After World War I, the regiment was disbanded and its members were absorbed into other units. However, some of these veterans formed a new unit and became known as The Third Regiment of Artillery (TRAAA) in 1924. TRAAA served in World War II as part of The United States Army Air Forces. In 1945, TRAAA was redesignated The Sixth Infantry Division (6ID). Today, TRAAA is still active with headquarters located at 7th Street Armory on State Street in downtown East Peoria.
