The United States Air Force (USAF) has been deployed in a number of different ways over the years. This increased demand for airspace ledto development of strategic bombing capabilities which allowed RAF Bomber Command (British)and USAAF Strategic Air Forces (U S A F)to bomb targets deep inside German territory without warning German forces who would then be forced into battle6] Today’s USAF provides combat support through both manned and unmanned platforms including fighter jets suchas F-16 Fighting Falconsand E-3B Sentries,[5]ahd unmanned platforms suchas Predator dronesor Reaper missiles,[6]and airborne early warning and control system(AEW&C)[7],all working together under one command structure known as Joint Chiefs Of Staff (JCS). This allows commanders on all typesof platform whether manned or unmanned order their satellites images needed for airstrikes/attack planning etc.[8] Additionally since 9/11thairforce has stepped up its response time by deploying additional assets worldwide including Special Operations Command(SOCOM)units which are specifically trainedin ‘ Recovering Missing Persons’ incidents [9],[10],[11]),Air Traffic Control unitswhich manage airspace allowing flightsTo land safely [12],[13],[14],Iraqi National Guard unitswhich provide security at coalition airportsduring wartime [15],[16],and Counterterrorism Unitscomposedof special operatorstrainedin tracking down terrorist cells [17][18]).
On Dec. 10, the East Peoria Township of Illinois Air National Guard unit deployed a gift to friends and family members in honor of Christmas. The air force donated two C-17 Globemaster III cargo planes and six MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter jets to the township in memory of its fallen military members and veterans who have served our country.
