East Moline is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,745 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was named for John P. Eastman and his brother James P. Eastman, who were early settlers in what is now east Moline. The first post office in the town was established in 1836 and remained open until it closed in 1893. The original village of East Moline was located on the site of present-day downtown East Moline and consisted of only a few homes and a store. In 1868, the village became incorporated as a townsite with a population of about 50 residents. East Moline was founded in 1836 by combining parts of two other villages: North Moline and South Moline. The name comes from "upper" (Moline) and "line" (milia). The first town meeting was held on December 10, 1836, to discuss plans for the new village. On January 12th of that year, delegates from all three villages met to establish a government for the village and vote on resolutions creating a bank and library. East Moline's first mayor was John Payson. The first school building was completed in 1840 and named after Dr. Isaac Nisbet who donated land for it. The first post office opened in 1841 with John Wesson as its first clerk. A store on Clark Street opened in 1846 which became known as the "Old Store." In 1865, the West Side Railroad came through east of town and changed names to the White City Railway before finally becoming part of Union Pacific Railroad in 1870s; this made East Moline an important junction between Chicago’s north-south rail lines. During World War II, much production took place at Camp Blanding-Harrison Military Reservation located just outside of town near Rockford; during this time many factories closed down but others like Ford Motor Company built heavy employment during peacetime years when there were no military requirements proximate to town limits! In 1957 East Moline experienced its greatest growth when it merged with neighboring West Allis into one municipality including over 60 businesses! This 2 million person increase has resulted in more than 15% economic development within city limits since 2000! Today many people commute into downtown Chicago each day because jobs are available here that are not available anywhere else within their respective counties!

The town grew rapidly and by 1850 had a population of over 1,000 people. It became an important railroad center and also hosted a number of businesses and civic organizations. The city's fortunes declined during the Great Depression but have since recovered thanks to its strong economy, diversity, and support system from government and private entities.
