East Moline, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 37,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The city is named after John C. Eastman, an early settler and one of the first men to come to what is now East Moline in 1837. The explorer and missionary George Washington visited Moline in 1790 while on his way from St. Louis to Mount Vernon; he called it "a very healthy place", but did not stay long because of a Navigation War with France that was then ongoing nearby. Moline's rich history began when General James Kasky established a military post there in 1813 as part of Fort Dearborn, which served as a base for Indian wars against Native Americans until 1833 when it was abandoned due to congressional appropriations running out and new fortifications were built at Chicago instead. In 1840, lumber baron Nicholas Nicolai bought 1,500 acres (500 ha) northeast of town and founded Nicolai Land Company with five friends: fur trader Elias Noyes, banker Samuel Morse Dodge, physician Elijah Hicks (the father-in-law of Hennepin County sheriff Zachariah Chatham), lawyer John Prentiss Hardaway and surveyor David Ritchie; each purchased an equal share in the company for $10 per acre ($2/ha). In 1846 Nicolai sold all his land except about 160 acres (60 ha) near present day South Wright Road to Anthony Wayne for $6 million dollars; this became known as "Nicolai Park". In 1850–51 Leonard Weisenthal opened what becameoneof America's first ice cream parlors; it remains open today under its original name – Levy's Creamery – located on North Main Street across from City Hall east of I-88 just north of State Highway 57A (now Interstate Highway 687). A year later Weisenthal added another parlor – this time called Dairyland – on West Side Avenue between State Street and Cicero Avenue west of Chicago Boulevard; also open today are three restaurants serving German Shepherd Dogs: Schweizer Dog Cafe (), Austrian Dog Cafe () and Bockwurst & Wiener Schnitzel House (). In 1863 McClernand had two plantations named Liberty Plantation(northwest corner lot edge line old Eads Mill Road - started by Isaac English - McClernand family heirs)and Emporium Plantation(southwest corner lot edge line old Wabash Mills Rd.) These two plantations were combined into one estate named McClernand Estate during their ownership by Andrew Carnegie who changed its name back to McClernand Estate after selling it 1923 to Trustees Of Northwestern Illinois College . In 1893 Eastern Railroad Company built tracks through Moline from Jacksonville over US 31 south towards Springfield Missouri where they connected with Union Pacific Railroad mainline coming into Chicago along I-88W thence east via I-88E past Village Lake Michigan before finally reaching Springfield Armour Yards just outside downtownChicago proper

East Moline, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, and the county seat of Cook County. The population was 137,539 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-most populous city in Cook County. It lies on the east side of Chicago with a large airport near its core. East Moline's economy is based on manufacturing and professional services. The first European to explore what is now East Moline was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1514 when he charted an expedition from Venice to what is now Michigan Territory. In 1803, John Cushman founded Cushman & Wakefield mills in what is now East Moline after his father-in-law bought land there for $1 million (the equivalent of $ today). The town site was chosen because it had a deepwater port that could supply goods to ships sailing down the Mississippi River from St. Louis and points west and because it was free from natural obstacles such as hills or woods that would have made getting goods to market difficult or impossible. The first mill buildings were erected between 1810 and 1830; they were replaced by later buildings during this time period. During World War II, many workers who helped build American industry went into military service and their families moved into East Moline after the war ended; these people are considered "Molineans" by local residents. After World War II, many factory jobs left East Moline for other locations in North America but many residents still retain some connection to their home town through shopping at local stores or dining out here; known locally as "Cushman's Corner." In recent years, more businesses have come online—- including several restaurants—-but much of downtown’s commercial district remains empty until late at night due to zoning restrictions placed on building sizes downtown which limit development opportunities for larger businesses like cafes and small stores outside of the “ entertainment district” stretching along First Street between State Street and Wacker Drive
East Moline is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, on the border of Michigan and Wisconsin. The population was 20,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Waukesha County. The first European settlers in what is now East Moline were French Canadians who came to this area in 1814 with Captain George Doucet and his family from Canada. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the Fox River, which they named "La Prairie". In 1815, Captain Doucet's brother-in-law, Pierre Lacombe founded the town of La Salle on land east of present-day East Moline. The Lacombes called their new community "Moline" after Mount Atholese priest Father Alexandre Marie de Montrose (1763–1829). In 1827, General Anthony Wayne arrived at Fort Dearborn and ordered Major James Wilkinson to build a military post there as part of American expansion into Michigan Territory. Wilkinson recommended that he Build an Arsenal here to supply American forces with cannonballs for war against Mexico. The site chosen for the post was near present-day East Moline where he had already selected an site for an arsenal because it would be close to navigable waters and easy access to transportation links across Lake Michigan. After select testing by artillerymen and engineers under Colonel John Davenport in 1830, it was determined that West Side Harbor would be more suitable than any other location for serving as America's first inland port on the Great Lakes; Accordingly, Davenport ordered construction began on what became known as "Old Port" or "Waukesha Harbor". When Waukesha County was organized in 1836, part of its territory included lands east of present-day East Moline including parts of today's Wauskeh County and Champaign County; however, all original east side residents forfeited their rights when they joined Cook County over two years later during the great migration westward following Grove’s Rebellion (1837). At first only men could vote but women soon became politically active too; they helped run local elections beginning in 1840 while still residing within their own homes which opened up many opportunities for social interaction not available to men at that time such as holding public office or becoming businessmen/farmers/the like . During World War II most workers who produced munitions were located here along with other manufacturing facilities throughout Illinois due to wartime restrictions placed upon other states by President Franklin D Roosevelt
