As mentioned before Glen Ellyn also annexation took place in 1924 so that now all of Glen Ellyn falls within Downers Grove boundaries as well making it one large community

Downers Grove is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 21,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1847, George Stephenson founded Downers Grove Plantation on the site of what is now Downers Grove Village. In 1849, Stephenson's son-in-law and namesake, Josiah Noyes, settled in Downers Grove and began to develop land around it into a township. On March 3, 1865, Township #2 was organized from parts of Township #1 south of State Street and east of Cicero Avenue. On November 14th 1898, the village of Downers Grove was incorporated as a separate municipality by an act of the General Assembly under the name "Downers Grove". The boundaries for this new municipality were: north - Cicero Avenue; east - Irving Park Road; south - South Water Street; west - Interstate 90. The first mayor of DownersGrove was John Fenton (1898–1901). On October 1st 1902 Mayor Fenton resigned after being indicted on charges including bribery in connection with his campaign for state representative from Cook County (the first U.S. election to be held using secret ballots). He was replaced by Charles Wohlgemuth (1902–1903). On December 12th 1903 Mayor Wohlgemuth resigned due to health problems after eight months in office when he became seriously ill with tuberculosis and died at home on January 5th 1904 aged 54 years old. His successor was James Prentice (1904–1905) who served until his death on May 10th 1905 at the age of 70 years old having been elected to serve three terms as Mayor without interruption since 1902
