Dolton is a town in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. Dolton is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Dolton community was platted in 1847 by John Dolton and his brother James Dolton. The first settler to arrive was Lucius Denton in 1848. In 1850, Jonas Hecker built a cabin on the present site of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1851, David Hiram bought land northeast of Dolton and established Hiram's Mills. The town name originated with Amos Dolton, one of Amos' sons who came to America in 1824 as an indentured servant and owned land north of Joliet until he sold it in 1830 to his employer Daniel Webster for $2,500 (the then high price for land). By 1860, the population had increased to 350 people and there were five churches and twenty-four stores. In 1863, when General Nathan Bedford Forrest invaded Missouri during the American Civil War and burned most of Springfield—a event which deeply touched many northern residents because Springfield was their largest city—Dolton contributed men to support Forrest's army. According to oral history researcherJohn Toland: "In 1863 about fifty citizens from Dulon went into battle with General Forrest." Afterward many residents returned home but some continued living in Duffield or other nearby communities until 1865 when all southern Illinois towns were destroyed by Union forces during the Battle of Peoria after Confederate Brigadier General Andrew Johnson ordered a withdrawal from central Illinois due to increasing Union control over resources near Joliet. Of those that remained behind , ninety percent moved west into Kankakee County where they founded what is now Crystal City Park & Resort which opened its doors on July 1st 1959." An early post office operated at Dolton from November 3rd 1850 through May 9th 1854 under the name "New Salem". It was changed to "DolTON" on January 1st 1860 after being approved by the US Post Office Department; this change occurred because Amos Dolton had died less than two months earlier while serving as postmaster at New Salem (renamed Dulon following his death). On February 26th 1861 Colonel John Phelan organized a volunteer battalion known as 'The Illini', which served three months before disbanding due to lack volunteers On May 4th 1865 Samuel Greaves organized a small band called 'The Rebels'. They numbered only 10 men total but managed to capture two cannons belonging to Union troops at Elmhurst Heights just outsideof town limits priorTo withdrawing back insidetown Limits they set off several large fireballs that could be seen for miles
The first small batch coffee was made in an old mill in the town of West Allis, Wisconsin in 1868. The mill's owner, E.A. Knight, brewed two cups of coffee each day and sold them to local residents for $1.50 a cup. In 1870, he started a second mill and produced four cups of coffee each day. By 1872, Knight had opened a third mill and began producing ten cups of coffee each day. He continued to sell his coffee until 1953 when his business closed down due to competition from the large machine shops that were becoming more prevalent at the time.

In 1912, a new way of processing coffee beans was developed, which led to increased production and a more consistent quality of cup of coffee.
Dolton was a small town in northwest Illinois until the late 1800s. Dolton had a population of about 1,000 people around the turn of the century. The first settler in Dolton was David Dolton, who arrived in 1814. By 1825, there were nine families living in Dolton. In 1828, John Prentice and his wife purchased land west of the village from David Dolton. They started a house on what is now Main Street and named it after their benefactor, John Prentice Sr., an early settler in this area. In 1852, James Kapp bought three-quarters of township No. 2 from David Dolton and began to build a home there. He named it "Kapp's Grove." When construction was complete, he put up a sign that read: "This Is My Home." By 1870, Kapp had built four more homes which he called "Homes from Heaven." These homes are still standing today and can be viewed by visitors during regular business hours at the Kapp Homestead Museum located adjacent to Hwy 20 exit 203A off I-57 near Farmington Hills, MI. Kapp also did some farming and logging activity as well as building some businesses in Dolton such as The grocery store (1893) operated by JF Sears and His Son George Sears which became one of the largest grocers east of Chicago; Richards Bros Cigar Store (1901), operated by WJ Richards; JB's Service Station (1906), operated by JC Bemis; The Lumber Yard (1910), run by LB Lowry; and finally The Post Office (?, 1912). All but one of these businesses closed within 10 years or less due to various factors including technology advances having taken over new markets for goods delivered via mail services at that time like railwayroads with stops at each rail junction making travel much easier than it was then! The last post office closed its doors on November 3rd 1912 after serving Dolton for more than 100 years!
Dolton is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Dolton was founded in 1847 by Capt. John Dolton and his family as a small farmstead on the confluence of the Kankakee and Sangamon rivers. In 1864 it became an incorporated town. The village name originally derived from English "dolton" meaning "a bed or pasture." The first post office in Dolton was established on April 20, 1847, by Capt John Dolton with Wm Haggerty serving as secretary. By 1860 there were twelve post offices in Dolton with Wm Haggerty serving as clerk and postmaster until his death on October 9th of that year. In 1924, Joliet Township merged into Kane County; however, Joliet retained its own government and school system until 1959 when all educational institutions within Kane County were combined under one system known as Chicago Public Schools (CPS). In 1964-1966 Little Rock Township merged into Dolton also becoming part of CPS; however this merger did not take place until after Little Rock's annexation by Park Ridge which took place in 1966. Finally during the 1990s West Dundee Township merged into Dolton also becoming part of CPS but this merger did not take place until after West Dundee's annexation by Park Ridge which took place in 1998
